Science is not synonymous with physicalism (the idea that only physical things are real).

If there were good evidence for spirits, scientists would record that there are spirits.

If scientists found evidence that people could use psychic powers to predict things, scientists would believe in those too.

If scientists went to Hogwarts, and saw people casting spells with words, they would systematically record what words create what spells. They would try to understand why certain words create certain effects. They wouldn’t be like, “Oh magic is real so we can’t do science.”

Scientists tend to be materialists because there isn’t good evidence for psychics, ghosts, and magic spells.

But if those things existed, their existence would be part of science.
