"Astronomers estimate that roughly 85% of all the matter in the universe is dark matter"

"I always get crucified by this, but it is something that has intrigued me for a lot of time, before Michelson Moorley and Einstein there was this idea that there was an invisible "substance" that permeated all of the universe, it was thought that this aether was used as a medium for EM waves, Maxwell believed in it, Faraday believed in it, Tesla believed in it, in fact a less known statement by Einstein was that he couldn't imagine a world without aether.

But today we basically believe that aether is a thing of the past, yet the first time I heard about dark matter was that it was something "invisible", that basically couldn't be detected, and that in fact most of the universe is permeated by this special type of dark or invisible matter, to me it sounds a lot like aether. Am I wrong to think of dark matter as aether, could dark matter be just a newer fancy word for what was considered aether? is aether dead or still alive? some people think aether is a very real thing."

"aether (also ether), a fluid or energy field required for the movement and transmission of electromagnetic fields and gravitational forces.

Once believed to be a farce, the existence of aether is an emerging trend in theoretical physics.

The basic concept is that aether allows for the continuum of interaction.

It fills all voids, trails like any fluid or gas, and has properties that allow for the Universe to expand."

"99.9 percent of the Universe is made up of plasma," says Dr. Dennis Gallagher, a plasma physicist at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. "Very little material in space is made of rock like the Earth."

"Drag is a force exerted on an object moving through a fluid"

"The findings do, however, narrow the possibilities for liquidlike spacetime to only liquids with very low viscosities that cause almost no dampening—superfluids.

Even supporters of the fluid spacetime idea say the concept is not very popular, and perhaps unlikely. But might it be true? “I have absolutely no idea,” says Renaud Parentani, a physicist at the University of Paris–Sud who originally suggested the idea of considering dissipation effects. “My frank opinion is that nobody has any idea. All we can do is model the various possibilities.”"

"In Einstein's theory space and time is single entity called spacetime. We treat spacetime as a smooth fabric which is distorted by presence of energy. Thus the term the fabric of space and time."

"Ether theory, or aether theories, is an idea in physics which proposes the existence of a medium that can transmit gravitational or electromagnetic forces."

"Imagine that all of space is uniformly filled with an invisible substance—now called the Higgs field—that exerts a drag force on particles when they accelerate through it."
