Are We On The Edge Of Immortality?

A rocket engineer and IT engineer Ian Peterson like to predict the future of technology. And somehow we are somewhat successful and the majority of his guesses come true. Now he is predicting that the quick advancement in bio-medicine and digital technologies is bringing us to a victory against death itself in three possible ways

1. Regenerative technologies

Pearson thinks that we have technologies in genetic engineering that may stop or even reverse cellular aging. He is betting on the fan favorite tool CRISPR but also on think like 3D printing of stem cells and other biological material to create replacement organs and body parts. As Peterson says: not many people will want to live forever and feel like a current 95-year-old. But if you could be 95 and feel like a 20-year old that would be quite different.

2. Robotic bodies

Theoretically, it is possible to improve and rejuvenate our bodies through bio-medicine. But Pearson believes that the most probable way to immortal leads through sophisticated interfaces between nerves and electronics. And he hopes the technology could be advanced enough in 2050 so we could be walking around in android bodies while around weak biological bodies will lie at home. Pearson thinks we will create such interfaces before we completely rejuvenate our bodies. And we already have working prosthesis will neural interface and their rapid development is being financed by both private entrepreneurs and governments.

3. Life in the Matrix

And lastly, we have the option often promoted by transhumanists. Pearson says that one-day humanity will have the chance to shed their physical bodies and live in an entirely virtual world. There humans could live incredibly long times, as long as the technology keeping the systems working would work itself.

Thoughts on nanotechnology and nano bots? If/when we get to that level, it opens the door to whole new possibilities....
