Infinite Monkey Theorem , Can a Monkey Create Shakespeare's Works ?

in science •  7 years ago  (edited)

Todays article is going to be about a controversial topic , a little probility and Monkeys. Well I'm pretty sure there are monkey haters but I always find them entertaining. The founders of this theorem called it Infinite Monkey Theorem for a reason lets have a peek to this theorem.

Story of the Theorem

Who is the architecht of the Universe ? God or Evolution ? This is a still ongoing controversial argument for almost 150 years. Well we all know that Darwin was not the man of polemics or arguments. Instead of wasting his time with them he prefers to avoid them. At this point, there was a need for an enthusiastic and talented debater to defend his theory with passion in front of all masses, I'm glad that Thomas Huxley filled this position. The funny part is he is the creator of the word Agnostic , However people always called him Darwin's dog.

According to stories , when Huxley was depating with some clever Bishop who is also mathematician in Oxford( LOL mathematician bishop) he mentions about this analogy. If you put 6 immortal Monkeys infront of type writers with the help of luck and time eventually they can create a prayer from bible or a sonet from Shakespeare or even maybe a complete book. Therefeore it is quite possible that molecules chance-based motion creates a human being at some point in time.

After this argument bishop couldn't say anything and also according to story he began to insult Huxley he says " Are these monkeys are relatives from mother side or father side ? " Well there are tons of thrash talk stories like this lets just pass this one don't break the integrity of article.

The Science Behind The Theorem

Well this theory is completely about Probability which is a branch of mathematics it deals with the calculating the likelihood of a given event's occurence and it is expressed as a number between 1 and 0. As an instance You can assume a probability of a coin toss resulting in either "heads" or "tails" as 1 this can be considered as a certainty if we neglect the fact of vertical standing. In Infinite Monkey Theorem suggests that even monkeys can create the mens most beatiful creation with the help of infinite time and luck. It is a little paradoxical but , probability theory applies precise calculations to quantify uncertain measures of random events.

Applications and Criticisms

Well computer simulations can confirm this theory but we got a little problem about time limitations. A website entitled The Monkey Shakespeare Simulator created a RNG based system in July 1 , 2003. They reported that it took billions of years to get 24 matching words from monkeys. Well in some simulators monkeys are close to reproduce the work of Shakespeare.

However the real experiments with real typewriters and monkeys are in worse condition. They are not going well so far. They admit the fact that it is theoritacally appliable. However after the math they did Darwin Skepticals defends that even writing 6 world sentence would take billions of years and they say that the process of evalution is not that long.

Well I always defend that the concept of time might be vague for people so I'm skeptical about this theory but it might be. Do you know how much time it takes to count from 0 to billion ? Well according to counting speed it takes around 115 Years I'm just going to say that and run away.

I don't know which theory of how we got here to believe. Both seem very far-fetched to me but I cannot provide a plausible alternative either. I'm not a mathematician but I am an engineer so I've had some higher level math in college and based on those classes and the calc based physics classes I've taken it doesn't seem too likely that all the laws that govern our universe came as a result of random chance. I'll also admit I don't subscribe to any type of organized religion but I do believe in some form of a higher power in the universe but I don't think it meddles in everyday life like so many others do. No offense to anyone...

Very interesting read. Followed.

Same here man my mathematical knowledge is limited cheers !

nice post!!!!!!!!! keep it up
