Using these memory boasting techniques can help raise your ability to learn new information faster and retain it for a longer time.
Making use of the repeat technique
One of the important rules of learning and memorizing is to repeat, repeat and again i say repeat. The brain also responds to novelty, so if you repeat things or words in a different way or at different time will have the most of the novelty effect and help you in building a stronger memory.
Example of these are
- Take note.
- Repeating a word or name you heard for the first time for some number of times.
- Repeating and paraphrasing what you are been told.
Organizing
A day planner or smart phone calendar can be very helpful in keeping track of activities and appointments. It can also be use as a journal in which you would write anything you want to remember.
Writing down and arranging information reinforces learning.
- If possible jot down most of your conversion experiences and thoughts.
- Go through current and previous day's entries at breakfast and dinner.
- If you are using a planner and not a smart place and take it where ever you go.
Visualize
Knowing people's faces and name is particularly a hard task for most people. To add to repeating people's name, you should also associate the name with images. Visualization enhances the association you are making between the face and the name.
Cue
When it is difficulty to recall a particular fact or word, you should cue yourself by trying to give a related detail or talking around the name, fact or word.
You can also practically cue by doing the following.
- Using alarm or kitchen timer as a remainder of a particular appointment or task.
- keeping an item related to a task you must do in a prominent place at home.
Grouping
When trying to remember a long list of entries, grouping of those items in sets of three to six just as you would easily remember, as it is done when trying to remember a phone number. This strategy make use of organization and building relation and it helps to extend the capacity of our short - term memory by chunking information together rather than trying to remember each piece of information separately
This technique has help me a lot in memorizing numbers which as been so helpful to me in my field of study i.e Engineering i hope it will be of help to someone less
