Suesa's Science Challenge #3 - A Very Science Christmas

'Tis the season to do science! My new Science Challenge has a theme appropriate for the season.

My first two challenges (A day in the life of ... and Misconceptions) have been fun for all participants and judges, so I hope for the same effect this time.

What's the topic?

We all know Santa is fake. But ... what if he wasn't? What scientific conditions would need to be met for Santa to exist or at least for some things to work?

How does he know who has been bad or nice? How does he fly? How does Rudolph's nose glow?

Pick a question and answer it - scientifically!

The rules

  1. You need at least one scientific source to back up your explanation!
  2. Tag your post with #suesascience and include a link to the challenge.
  3. Pictures need to be credited if they are not your own.
  4. English only!
  5. Comment a link to your entry below this post.
  6. Winners from the last challenge can participate, but their entries won’t be taken into consideration to give other people a better chance at winning.
  7. If you want to participate but want to decline the chance to win you can state that at the beginning of your post.
  8. Winners will be chosen by volunteers from steemSTEM management who won’t participate themselves.
  9. The challenge ends on the 15th of December 23:59 UTC+1, results will follow soon.
  10. Known plagiarizers and spammers are automatically disqualified! Same goes for people who are caught stealing their entry from somewhere else (this applies to sources outside of Steemit too. I will check and you will be disqualified and publicly shamed.)

The Rewards

  1. 30 SBD + 30 SP
  2. 25 SBD + 25 SP
  3. 20 SBD + 20 SP
  4. 15 SBD + 15 SP
  5. 10 SBD + 10 SP

The SP are directly powered up by the @steemstem account, it's not a delegation!

The SBD are taken out of my personal funds and just like the last time, there is a possibility for additional winners, if the payout of the announcement posts is exceptionally high.

Additional Notes

Every participant who follows the rules will be mentioned in the final post which announces the winners, to give them all a bit more exposure.

If you want to connect with the steemSTEM community, join the #steemSTEM channel on steemit.chat!

And last but not least: Good luck and have fun writing!

Hey, this looks like something I could put some good ol' math into. Although there are less than 3 days.

Dear santa,

All I want for Christmas is more STEEM.

I've tried to be good, please do not bring me coal (flags)

Thank you,

JustTryMe90

Good contest suesa, I hope it brings out the communities creative side.

Oh yes! I've always wanted to know if Santa is real or not. Just like this boy below

Now we are about to find out with an incentive attached. Sweet!
Regards,
@greenrun

please please right me aletter back

Is that even possible? If santa is real then he definately must have some supernatural abilities for which no scientific laws can back up( i think he should have the ability to know all things all at the same time, have the abilty to be in muti-location all at thr same time) and this is just a tip of what he should have to excute his program correctly....but anyway i'll try i'll see waht i can do is definately going to be intresting ...love the challenge... @suesa

You don't need to explain everything and surely don't need to be 100% correct, that would make this challenge impossible. Just take one thing that you can explain based on some science that exists!

Alright dear

yay another suesa's challenge to come~ Already got an idea of what to write!!

Santa isn't real!!! My life is a lie... but I had a hypothesis and can prove santa is real because my living room has a higher radiation level than background which makes sense if he is teleporting from the north pole into my living room every year, as background radiation is greater near the poles. Blasphemy, Santa is Real! jk.
challenge is here or if you prefer copy and paste then here:

Why is this so tempting?

Prose and loads of research blended together :D

What else did you expect from me? :D

Being who you are... nothing less of this! :)

I know exactly what I'm going to write for this! Might get a bit dark.. but hey!

As long as it is plausible!

Plausible is a relative term. XD

Nice idea have some post ideas already

Wait, what!! Santa is not real?? 😢

Where I come from; we don't call him Santa, but "father Christmas" :)
P.S: If I get Santa cybernetic wings, will he fly?

Maybe?

Oh how fun!! Here is my entry and thanks for having this challenge!

This didn't exactly go how I originally planned it to go, but I think it's highly entertaining. XD
How Does Santa Know If You're Naughty or Nice?
Hope you like it.

Nice

I think I will participate in this but I need some time to cool off a bit.....See ya

I dont have a scientific source, but I believe that he existed as a person with a high level of spirituality or an alien. And I am not joking but I really mean it. People were more advanced then we are today and I believe in that :)

Exactly, who needs scientific proofs if you believe in something!

Yes, it is I.

Well, I'm just passing by to leave the link to my post.
I know I came late, but still on schedule :)
Thanks for the opportunity @suesa.

Thanks I will try to make something up!!!

:p

Here's my explanation of why Rudolph's nose glows.
This was a lot of fun!

Dear santa can I have 10 cents for christmas? Thanks.

Most I can do is a flag

Hello @suesa

Thanks for the opportunity. This is no doubt a tough one. I will have to carefully th ink about this and see what I can come up with. That's of course essence of science. Thanks
