"Take Your Dreams Seriously!" || About The Science Behind Dreaming

A dream is a wish your heart makes. - Walt Disney

There has been a lot of research trying to shed light on how and why we remember dreams - and what purpose they are likely to serve.

For centuries scientists and researchers have pondered the meaning of dreams. It's an incredibly fascinating phenomena and field of study without any doubt. I bet all of us know that feeling of waking up in the morning and thinking:

Wait! Where did these images come from?

In many ancient societies, such as those of Egypt and Greece, dreaming was considered a supernatural communication or a means of divine intervention, whose message could be interpreted by people with these associated spiritual powers.

Even though I'm not considering myself being supernatural, I love being inspired by these magical adventures that happen to us at night. Maybe they appear for a reason. That's why I often write them down to then spin them out during the day and like that turning an unreal phenomena into something real.

Actually a lot of dreams in my life have been the very beginning of a future plan, a new project or at least an idea. Currently I'm working on a dream I had a couple of weeks ago. Supposedly that one will keep me busy for the next decade since it was one of the bigger flashes - a lifetime dream.

Now the time between one year and the next is perfect to design new dreams, whether while we're sleeping or awake. One chapter closes and another one opens, the blackboard of life is going to be cleaned again leaving a lot of space to write down new stories.

Here's to the importance of dreams and their ability to guide our lives into the right direction.

@surfermarly on the Christmas Eve

I had a dream!

Independently if you're a scientist or not, why would you believe people have incredibly inspiring dreams if they had no meaning?

Walt Disney said once:

If you can dream it, you can do it.

I second that, and also wouldn't make any difference between the dreams that appear at night and the ones we live during the day. In the end they're all products of the very same brain.

At the end of the nineteenth century great philosophers like Sigmund Freud tried to put forth some of the most widely-known modern theories of dreaming. Freud's theory centred around the notion of repressed longing; the idea that dreaming allows us to sort through unresolved, repressed wishes. (The Science Behind Dreaming)

Now recent scientific studies proved that dreams seem to help us process emotions by encoding and constructing memories of them.

What we visualize and experience in our dreams might not necessarily be real, but the emotions attached to these events (those that we still feel when already being awake) certainly are.

Dreams help us to process memories and associated emotions, supposedly bringing the most intense - those that keep us busy (consciously or not) - to the front.

In the past I often had the sensation that some of my dreams visualized what I had been silently thinking about for a while but didn't dare to speak it out openly.

I definitely felt that some of these dreams had the power to push me into the right direction.

Now some of you might still think that this is child's play or nonsense, since the one and only reality is taking place when our eyes are open and our mind's awake.

But how could we know?

Who would be able to prove that our thoughts are more valuable during the day than at night? Just because we experience them consciously and have the sensation to somehow control them they're more real?

Maybe a dream is a message we're sending to ourselves, hidden in the darkness of the night.

Dreams empower us to become whatever we want in life.

In dreams we have super power. We build huge castles in the air, travel to foreign places we've never been to before, meet people that seem unavailable to us in real life and sometimes we even save the whole world.

No matter where these flashes come from or how they arise, I really believe in their purpose. Thus, I've always taken them seriously.

We may not be able to build a castle in the air, but we could build that imaginary castle - the product of our thoughts - on the ground and transform our dream house into a home.

Dreams are little notes, and we should decode and read them carefully.

Sweet dreams, steemians!

Marly -

And what if you are scare of your dreams, dear @surfermarly? And the change accomplish your dreams can bring to your life ?
I have a dream since I am 16. But its like almost impossible to reach it. I always find something to break it :-/

You mean nightmares? Even though I'm not a scientist, I guess these kinds of dreams show us our own limits and reveal our fears. When my two brothers were little repeatedly I had the very same dream: the threee of us we were at the beach, then a huge tidal wave arrived and swept away the two of them. That was the point when I woke up - with shock. I always knew that this dream revealed the love I feel for my brothers and my instinct always wanting to protect them.

I'm pretty sure that all our dreams have a certain message for us... also the one that you mentioned, the one you can't reach :-)

Thanks for stopping by, Roxane! It's always a pleasure chatting with you.

@surfermarly, I wasn't thinking first at nightmares. Just of being scare to accomplish your dreams. A dreams is something who is a dreams... untouchable... I try to change my mind set for years now because I alsways said : I want to accomplish my dreams. And someone told me : don't call it a dreams. Call it a plan and start actions. And this part is a bit complicate for me (and many others). We like to dreams, it's easy to dream... so much easier than to plan and start to take action. You are an inspiration Marly. I need to follow you more to see how I can change my dreams into action and them, live my dreams. This is my goal for 2018 :) follow my dream, set up a step by step plan with actions and reach this dream...

Do you think we really can reach all our dreams ?

Thank you for sharing the story about your life. I didn't know you had two little brothers ! Where are they, still not on Steem ???? By the way, have you gave the Steem account in Christmas ???

Always a pleasure, yes :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Roxane!

Do you think we really can reach all our dreams ?

That depends on the dream and our own situation. I'd rather say that we may accomplish everything that fits in our personal "framework". Like if you dream of something that's completely off your possibilities, obviously it's going to be hard to achieve it. Yet, if we make plans that are still realistic, we even should dream big and like that exceed our own limits. If we always stand at the same point and don't try something big, we'll never be able to grow and come any further... Dreams or plans - as you might call them - definitely need to be big, but still somehow available.

One of my brothers has a steemit account since a couple of months, but he's not active. The other one was given the account on Christmas, as well as his wife and our mom. So: YES, I gave away steemit owner keys on Christmas :-)
I hope they'll all do an introduction post soon then I can resteem it and also introduce my family with an own article...

Good luck on your plans for 2018, I'm sure you're on the right way. When I met you in Lisbon you seemed very determined to me :-)
Feliz 2018!!

I see many people who lost there dreams like a decade ago. Of course they are kind of miserable. What give our lives meaning is purpose and vision. But dreams whitout goals remain just a dream. Dream big, but focus on goals that will get you to that dream that you want.

Well said@bloomberg215 been telling myself I need to find that man to grew old with yet I'm too lazy and too tired to even bother dating.

I am a man and I almost think the same way....but dont you think this is wrong,,? we need all to participate in making life lasts on earth. How..? By getting married and have Kids.

I love your way of thinking :-)

What give our lives meaning is purpose and vision.

...and couldn't agree more on this one!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your vision.

Hey Gohar! Just one little advice since you're new to steemit: you shouldn't copy & paste the very same comment a hundred times. That could be considered spam, and people might flag (downvote) you. Try to engage with people and not behave like a bot :-)
Good luck!

DREAMING IS MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT SLEEPING

What about trying to remember your dreams?

It's a question of training. I've got paper an pen close to my bed and write down things when I wake up. Like that it's easier to not lose them :-)

Thank you for this wonderful post!! We are what we think <3

Nicely said, @love-your-wild.
Like your nickname :-)

Thank you :-)

"If you can dream it
You can do it"

The good old copy and past strategy, huh? Boring!

Nah, it is funny because i actually offer a painting with that quote to inspire and motivate someone who is always telling she can do this and that and dream about bug things, sometimes a simple quote can change someone life

And self-voting? Whose life are you changing by upvoting your own comments? lol
Go and paint my friend.

What that present as to do with my self-upvote?
Im changing mine, keep me motivated and get me more steem. I upvote posts too. And not everyone has english as main language, can write good and started blogging with high earnings.

damn! he stole my idea! :D :D

sooo, yes! Awesome topic! Dreams can be amazing! and they can be horrible but we don't want to focus there today! :)

When I was little i'd be flying in my dreams a lot, performing breast-stroke out of my bedroom window - so glad i didn't try to sleep-fly at any point as it was a bit of a drop onto stone! I'd like to continue them from night to night and loved going to bed to do this!

As I've gotten older, I've lost this ability sadly, but at least i'm in a better place with dreams than I was a few years ago.

Hey, do you have those lucid dreams? Where you sort of know you are dreaming but just roll with it and can control what happens next - those are rare for me but super cool!

A 10 year plan dream sounds epic though, and to this I have just one thing to say:

Merry Christmas Marly, I hope your dreams come true in 2018 and 2028! :D

p.s what is your prezzie? I can't quite work it out and now its bugging me!

@abh12345 I agree with you as we grew older or gets harder and hardest to believe in a dream.yet we must do as pointed here

What a wonderful insight, Asher!

When I was little I had the repeated dream of a skyscaper I lived in. There was a time I had the very same dream during months. Funny enough the only habitable floor was the ground floor. That dream found me over and over again. So when my mom woke me up she used to ask: 'How was your night in the skyscraper?'

I think these dreams where you can control things happen when you're already half-awake, is that possible? I've had a lot of them, but can't plan them as you said.

Again, what a nice comment! Thanks for stopping by.
I'm glad not everybody here copy pastes to then upvotes his own comments :-P

Merry Merry Christmas and a great 2018 for you!

well, perhaps there's a reason why dreams remain dreams. Hey, I'm not a skeptic or anything but everybody has to face the reality of life, that is money. Everybody is forced to play this game of money and it seems that there's always not enough money to go around. Money can be a dream enabler or a dream killer.

That's why we're all on Steemit, right? :-)

yuuuupppppp!!!!!

:-)

Agree @dali.soh we need money but @surfermarly is right steemit will generate the cash so we can pursue some if not all we dream of one at a time

without dreaming is no life, just looks a deadbody. I have always dream to got more success on steemit and bought my own house for my family and live full of prosperity life.
Thanks @surfermarly ,and stay blessed for ever.

I think a lot of Steemians have this dream about building their own house paid with cryptocurrencies :-)

Quite agree @rabeel with dedication wall to steemit for building those dream homes

yes @surfermarly, in many asian countries, many peoples have not their own house, many of them live in rental houses, rent is so high there. and everyone desired to their own home for the future of their kids.
thanks for supportive replied.

Frohe Weihnachten :-)

yeh, its a message sending to others in the darkness of night

exceptional

@surfermarly What ever one's perspective about dreams ,be it scientific or otherwise they are very fascinating and in my opinion do carry a message for us. What do you think? @surfermarly ?

I do believe in Dreams. They actually can show possible ways to achieve or make our Dreams true. Believe or not, they are the projections of desires and projects unfulfilled. Dreams are the lastest thing to lose. Keep on dreaming. Great post, I enjoyed it a lot.

Hi @Surfermarly
Yes your are right!!! Dream is a series of thoughts images or emotion which gives meaning to someone life. Dream also help us to process memories and associated emotions which make life so easy.
Thanks for sharing this motivational article!!! I love it!!!

I agree that when you dream, it's like you are trying to send yourself a message. Ah, self, why don't you speak plainer! :) I read once that everybody in your dream is actually you, and I think that's probably true. However, once in awhile, I have dreams that are so vivid, it seems like somebody else is also speaking to me. For example, that happens when I dream about people who have passed away. I guess even people who have died continue to ride along inside of us, for better or worse.

I find dreaming a fascinating matter. I rarely dream (in a sense that I can remember my dreams).

When I became familiar with the works of Carl Jung, it became much clearer to me what dreams meant and how they really are ... real to people.

This lead us to eventually to do a programme which helps people clear their subconscious traumas called Fresh Mind.

After doing that programme I realeyesed how the mind really works and how powerful it is in creating our observable reality around us.

The dreams, with their subconscious or even unconscious origins and location, can be 'seen' by us with our conscious mind eventually if we are willing to work enough on raising our own level of self-awareness.

Now I feel perfect all the time and work and operate in a state of flow all the time.

This is an encouraging posy I have to be honest soemtimes it frustrates me when. My dreams do not come true I guess I don't believe in them completwly @sufermarly

Our dreams represent the engine that drives us to achieve proposed objectives, and yes, our reason to live. regards

A great read, thanks.

‘If it be thus to dream, still let me sleep!’ - Shakespeare

Dreams about yourself are very imporant, because if you have a dream it really wants to transform,,,,,,,,,,,,

I like all of your posts a lot. Which helps us a lot.
Thanks so much for sharing beautiful current news posts friend @surfermarly

My dreams are always amazing. I often dream I'm painting. It's a cool feeling to create the ones I see in my dreams!

Dreams have been and remain largely unanswered questions for humans, and as science develops, so does curiosity. Although we do not yet have completely clear answers, science has been able to discover some fascinating and astonishing things about what is going on in our heads in the middle of the night, when the body takes a break.

In the first five minutes after falling out of sleep, half of the dreams of the average person are forgotten. In the ten minutes after the awakening, 90 percent of the dreams are forgotten. People tend to remember their dreams considerably more, if they wake up in the middle of REM sleep cycle, also referred to as "dream year".

Dreams like flying, falling from a high place or degradation in public, all belong to the same kind: dreams of unpreparedness. They reflect common human anxieties and are not limited to socioeconomic status or culture.

Dreams of falling occur not only in humans, but also in other mammals. They usually occur in the early stages of sleep.

Children tend to have shorter dreams than adults, and about 40% of them are nightmares, Scientists who study the subject believe that dreams serve as coping mechanisms, and that in nightmares children are more common.

Studies have shown that animals, especially mammals, dream just like humans. Dog owners know that their pets move during sleep and even bark in their sleep.
