The optimal survival strategy in an egalitarian community

in science •  7 years ago

When the survival strategy in conflict-authoritarian (primitive) groups fails, a new balance in social organization is being sought. The system of relations is complicated, violence as a means of communication is replaced by cooperation. The unrestrained ambition of the members of the group is limited to them and evolves into self-esteem.

There is a request for a new balance in the allocation of resources. The answer to this is given by the theory of games "five pirates". We have five pirates: the Captain, the Helper, the Boatswain, the Helmsman, the Sailor. They managed to overcome personal ambitions. This allowed not only to conclude alliances and deals, but also to strictly observe the agreements.

As a result, the achievement of equilibrium in the game has changed radically. Pirates have found 100 gold coins and they need to divide them among themselves so that no one goes to feed sharks. Pirates are pretty harsh and hot people, so the choice of strategy depends on the life of everyone.

The captain is the first to offer one coin to the Matros and the Boatswain (98; 0; 1; 0; 1) so that they unite against the Helper and the Helmsman, leave them without money. In the case of a primitive community, the Sailor and Boatswain gladly agreed otherwise because of distrust to each other might not even have this money.

Another thing is egalitarian communities, here there is an opportunity not only to negotiate, but also to keep a word, so people trust each other. Proceeding from this, the Assistant will promise team members 2 coins to overthrow the captain and divide the money among the remaining team members (0; 96; 2; 0; 2).

Since the Captain does not want to feed himself sharks, he is forced to respond to the Assistant's proposal by adding one more coin to the team members and so on. As a result of the bargaining, two equilibria will be achieved, the Captain will propose a scheme for partitioning the treasure (34; 0; 33; 0; 33) against the Assistant (0; 34; 33; 0; 33). At this stage of the division, it will be more profitable for the Captain to bribe an assistant and distribute coins more or less fairly (34, 33, 11, 11, 11). So, the equilibrium in the egalitarian community is achieved as a result of a more equitable distribution of resources (34; 33; 11; 11; 11), in contrast to conflict-authoritarian groups (98; 0; 1; 1).

This is due primarily to changes in relations between people. Trust in each other and respect requires a more equal distribution of resources. The social organization becomes so complicated that any tyranny, absolute monarchy or autocracy becomes incapable of governing the state.

As a result, the distribution of managerial functions over a large number of institutions is required, a request for inclusive institutions appears. The optimal control system then turns out to be democratic mechanisms, a system of checks and balances.

So a slight change in the space of human understanding, the transition from uncontrollable ambition to self-respect, causes global changes in social organization.
