****Understanding Cubes (Cubic)****
The cube is a three-dimensional wake that has 12 ribs and 6 surface planes, each of which is square in shape.
The Side of a Cube#
Basically the cube is a box. A box has 12 sides (ribs). Each side can be considered a long side, wide side, and high side depending on the observer's point of view. In a cube, all 12 sides have the same length.
Cube Surface Fields#
The cube has 6 surface planes all of which are squares. The cube is a special box because all the fields are square.
Formula Calculating Cube Volume#
To calculate the volume or contents of a cube, it must be known the dimensions of the side of the cube. The formula for calculating cube volume is volume = side x side x side. This formula can be written as follows
The unit volume is the unit of cubic length eg cubic millimeters (mm3), cubic centimeters (cm3), cubic meters (m3), and so forth.
Here are two examples. Try to note:#
****Sample Problem 1****
Problem: A cube-shaped wooden block has sides that are 12 cm in length. What is the volume of the cube? (Hint: volume of cube = side x side x side).
Answer:
Volume of wooden beam = 12 cm x 12 cm x 12 cm = 1.728 cm3.
****Sample Problem 2****
Problem: A block of ice is cut into a long beam, the width, and the same side is 20 cm. What is the volume of the ice block? (Hint: volume of cube = side x side x side).
Answer:
A beam or box of the same length, width, and height (three sides together) is a cube. Volume of ice blocks = 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm = 8,000 cm3.
