How to Take a Screenshot on a PC in 3 Easy Steps

How to take a screenshot on a PC may seem like an easy question to answer, but depending on the computer, it might be more complicated than you think. Screenshots are useful when dealing with software or creating tutorials, so understanding how to take one could prove to be very beneficial in the long run. Here’s how to do it in 3 easy steps!

Step 1: Press Print Screen
The first step to taking a screenshot is pressing the Print Screen button on your keyboard. This button is usually located near the top-right of your keyboard, and says PrtScn or PrntScrn. When you press this button, it will take a picture of your entire screen.

Step 2: Press Ctrl + V
Now that you’ve taken your screenshot, it’s time to paste it into a program where you can edit it. The easiest way to do this is to press Ctrl + V. This will paste the screenshot into the program of your choice. You can also use the Snipping Tool, which is a built-in Windows program that allows you to take and edit screenshots.

Step 3: Open Paint

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key + PrtScn. This copies your entire screen to the clipboard.
  2. Open Paint from the Start menu (or type paint in the search bar).
  3. In Paint, select File > Paste from the top menu. Your screenshot will appear in the painting area.
  4. To save your screenshot, select File > Save As from the top menu. Choose JPEG for the file type and name your file before clicking Save.
