You're a wizard Harry, or Henry, or Henrietta...
Tell us about your first day at Wizard School and win a cash prize of $25 plus crypto currency upshares worth $75!
Your task
In 4000 words or less write a story about someone's first day at Wizard School.
Your guidelines
Interpret the task any way you wish. You could set your piece in a famous wizarding world which already exists, or make up your own. What about
- A university for advanced dragon training?
- A secret medieval sect which trained bards to keep the population docile?
- An exotic setting with tribal magic?
- Arriving at your mundane new job to find you're going to be trained in commercial wizardry?
- A unicorn riding school operating underground in Bolshevik Russia?
There really are no limits to what you could write about. Let your imagination do its thing.
Judging criteria
We'll be looking for pieces which are entertaining and engaging; with writing which enthrals and is a pleasure to read. If we're disappointed to reach the end of your piece, you've probably done a good job. Originality is a bonus too. Though we're open to pastiche or parody it's a good idea to include a unique twist or tell us something new if you're going to use an already established universe.
