Google has updated Google Maps to include a widget that allows you to choose your destination from the mobile home screen.
Google continues to improve its applications on Android, to put them on a par with those of iOS. Yes, there are cases where iPhone users have better applications than Android users, which is rare.
One of the examples was being able to use widgets on iOS much better than the ones we had on Android, at least on Google Maps, an app with many tricks.
Today the company has decided to bring this new widget to mobile users with its operating system.
A widget adaptable to the size
The first thing that catches the attention of the widget is that, depending on the size that we put it, it will have some functions or others. If it is small it will simply be a search bar.
If we give it more space, it will grow by incorporating shortcuts to home and work. If we give it even more space, it will add access to the most common searches, such as gas stations, bars, and hotels.
To put it we just have to press and hold the finger on any part of the desktop that is empty, go to widgets and go down until the Maps appear (eye, not Google Maps).
There we have to select the first one, called "Quick search for nearby places". When we put it on the desktop we can press on it for a long time to change the size and adapt it to our needs.
It is compatible with the Monet, the Android 12 color-changing system, and also with the night mode in previous versions of the system.
The new widget is now reaching all users but it may still be a few days until we have it on all phones and profiles.
