Second day at the Sea Otter Classic bike festival

in seaotterclassic •  7 years ago

So I demo'ed another bike at Sea Otter this morning. It was from a company named Canyon and was their cross country bike which is typically lighter than regular mtb's. A light bike will make climbing on them much easier, this bike weighed in around 24 lbs.

The test loop was 5.5 miles and 800 feet of climbing.

GPS data is from a Garmin Vivoactive HR and uploaded to Strava

After the demo, I watched the woman's cross country race which was 6 loops around the Laguna Seca area (Not the track)

After the 2nd loop, there were 3 riders in the lead. (Can't see the 3rd rider in this shot)

They had some climbing to deal with. It is steeper than it looks...

I watched the duel slalom for a few minutes as well. This is the waiting line getting up to the start gate

In the starting gate with a mechanical arm that drops for both riders at the same time. Wonder if they are nervous?

This is a shot of the duel slalom course, at the top it has some banked turns and near the bottom, gates.

Yes, they have new blingy $$$ road bikes too

The latest mtb drive trains are like this one, one chainring up front and a huge assortment of cogs at the back

There were some interesting purple flowers near the booth area, I'm not sure if they are wild or were planted

What a good post! What a Nice bikes and what a fun it should bring. But what pain it would give in the mountains... the legs completely tired out.

Thanks for visiting the blog and yes, cycling can be very tough on the legs...

H glennolua,

So, the bike companies actually let you try out their bike on the trails. This way you can decide if the bike is for you and how much you may like to own it.
Good for the potential buyer.
The competitors in the photos look very serious in competing.

Some bike manufactures bring bikes for demo's, not all of them. And yes, you get to try before a possible purchase. The pro winner for both men and woman was $1000.

Beautiful scenery plus a healthy activity. Who would not love to visit this beautiful place?

wow.
it's a great thing.
i wish i could do something like that.
but it's great to see you in the festival.

Stay fit....
