Who are the Seasteaders?

Hello! I am contact at blue dash frontiers dot com. It’s nice to meet you. I read and respond to the emails you send to us through our web page, www.blue-frontiers.com .

I have been interested in seasteading for almost 10 years. For the past year, I have been working directly with seasteaders as a supporter, then volunteer, now as a staff member at Blue Frontiers. I have met all of the staff at Blue Frontiers, and I have spoken with all the people on our About Us page. I have replied and conversed with hundreds of seasteaders through email. I went to the First Tahitian Seasteading Gathering in 2017 where I met over 100 of them in person. So I feel confident in being able to answer this question.

Seasteaders are regular people from all walks of life who have a common goal: they want to try something new. We come from all religious and political backgrounds. We come from all over the world. We all see something about our environment that we would like to make better. We talk about all kinds of topics and discuss how we can improve the world.

We talk about technology. We talk about what’s efficient and what’s sustainable. Which existing technologies are applicable? What are you inventing? Show us your napkin drawings. We talk about economics. We talk about governments, education, physical health, mental health. We talk about community building. Where do you want to live? How do you want to live?

What connects us is that we all see something about the world that we want to make better, and we have a willingness to do something about it.

We get along because this idea is bigger than any of us. It’s bigger than gender, bigger than race, bigger than ethnic or socioeconomic background. It’s bigger than where you went to school, or even if you went to school. We can set aside little things we disagree with for something better. A seasteader can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with someone with an opposing political view. However, we usually agree that we want something other than the current system. A seasteader can agree to disagree. Regardless of which side of the science you sit on about climate change, you can still agree that seastead technology will help the environment, because we need to treat the oceans better and learn to interact more sustainably with them. A seasteader is truly a tolerant and open-minded person. We don’t have thought police. Think what you like, because we are people of action. It’s your actions that define you. I have seen examples of this first-hand. When we get together we listen, we discuss, and we don’t judge.

Do we all have the same vision for a seastead? We do not. A perfect society is only perfect for one person. In America, they say vote with your dollar. On a seastead, eventually, you will vote with the mobility of your house. Seasteaders will be able to choose which community best suits their way of life. But we know that we have to have create many seasteads before we can choose between them. So we will set aside our differences to make this dream come true for everyone. The dream will become a reality for a few people first, but we all want it to be something for anyone; that is the long-term goal.

I’ve spoken to you. I’ve read about your dreams that you take the time to write out and share. I share your love of the water. I share your love of humanity. I even share your desire to get away from current society as it exists. I share your love of technology. I share your love of independence.

Blue Frontiers is going to launch an online community where we can all gather online and meet each other virtually and trade ideas. I look forward to talking to you more at that time.
