The Absurdity of Seat Belt Laws

Seat Belt Laws Are Keeping Us Safe

In America, we are compelled by the law to wear our seat belts when we drive.  They tell us that these fines are there in order to encourage safe behavior.  Who doesn't like being safe?  Crazy people, that's who!

If you hate your seat belt, there are actually some ways around seat belt laws that are completely legal.  In fact, not all vehicles even need seat belts, due to their inherent safe nature.  Let's take a look at some of them:

Motorcycles

How about two wheels, a completely exposed body, and no seat belt?  No problem!

Nothing is safer than being inches from the road, in a vehicle that is a fraction of the size of most of the other vehicles around you.  Who cares about blind spots or pot holes on the highway?  When you rear end someone at high speeds, this little guy has the added feature of being guaranteed to propel your body farther than you could possibly imagine.  How is that not fun?

Who needs to worry about seat belts with safety features like THAT!

Buses

Transporting the most important people on the planet everyday? No time for seat belts!

Time for little Jimmy to get up and go to school!  He better hurry up, because the bus is already late.  Good thing buses never get in accidents, in case the bus driver starts rushing.  That's right, it's true!

Did you know that buses are assembled by alchemists and wizards who imbue the bus with magical frames that make them literally impossible to crash?  I didn't!

No need for little Jimmy and his 50 friends to worry when they're going 65 mph down the highway.  They're as safe as can be!  Why would buses need seat belts, when they have magic?

Teslas?

Well, lookey here!  We got a certified death machine.  Get your frickin seat belt on!

Highest safety rating ever for a car?  Yeah, OK!  Like THAT means something!  As far as I can tell, this thing has four wheels, which means it's four times as dangerous as a motorcycle.  Fact.

Autopilot?  That's simply trusting a computer to drive you to your grave.  Airbags everywhere?  I don't want airbags in my way when I crash.  A seat belt is more than enough.  Best collision rating ever?  Yea, but does it have the best seat belt ever?

If you consider yourself safe without a seat belt in a vehicle of terror such as this, then you are literally insane.  I am going to hop on my bike and think about how unsafe your Tesla is, while cruising down this busy, rainy highway at 65 mph.  Just wear it, punk!

Conclusion

Government knows what's safe and what's not safe.  Seat belts are mandatory for all 4 wheel vehicles that don't carry a bunch of kids to school, field trips, or sports games.  Seat belts are not mandatory for 2 wheel vehicles, because they're safer (see above).

Clearly, by fining us for not wearing our seat belts, the government is looking out for us.  They are not trying to siphon away money from productive people, who are simply making their own choices in life.  No, no, no!  They are keeping you and I safe.

Safety first!

I lolled. You do this kind of writing very well!

Thank goodness for those state-sanctioned alchemists and wizards.

I don't need laws to keep me safe. My choice, my responsibility.

If I want to free climb a cliff, my choice.
If I want to walk across a street without waiting for the walk signal, my choice.
If I want to chug alcohol like mad, my choice.
If I want to have unprotected sex with another consenting adult, our choice.

The thing is the consequences are my responsibility.

There should be no laws about what MIGHT happen. No Pre-Crime.

Use the laws that already exist for if something does happen.

If I don't have a seat belt and I am harmed from it, don't you think I'm already paying for my choice?

Allright dwinblood, I think I'm going to have to make another post, because clearly you don't see how we can use the law to just keep everybody safe. Time to safety up! XD

You know those "We're going to Free the shit out of you Memes". I could totally see a "We're going to safe the shit out of you meme." Stick a catheter in and tie them to their bed.

My main problem with seat belt laws is identical to my main problem with drug prohibition. So WHAT if I want to risk my life driving down the road by not wearing a seat belt? How does that, in ANY way, impact ANYONE ELSE? That's right, it doesn't. But if I get caught engaged in the innocuous behavior of not wearing a seat belt while driving, I will get hours of my life siphoned away by the state in the form of money that I earned with those hours of life. Fuck that.

Wait a minute, are you telling me you want to make your own choices in life? What kind of world is this!? Someone needs some law to teach them a thing or two about safety. Now, have some prescription drugs, all the alcohol you want, a carton of cigarettes, a case of energy drinks, and sit in front of this TV for 20 hours while staying safe. XD

DAM dude... that is the one question that will never be answered too, lol... My mom drives a bus for the school district I grew up in.

Maybe I should confront her, "WTF, MOM?" then bounce out that fukn usafe womans house...

So true. Illogical bureaucratic bs. Big gov...stay out of my personal habits.

Wilst I understand the facts frrom the rest of the world dont apply in the USA. And the World Health Organization are agents of the Illuminati.

All of the facts in your story are just plain false and unsupportable in every way possible.

Being a libertarian or anarchist does not release you from the laws of Physics .

I know seat belts make us safer. I wear one...well, most of the time. ;)

The point is, the ridiculous nature of the seat belt laws. I mean, if seat belt laws keep us safe, then why does the law think that buses don't need them or that motorcycles are somehow safer? Driving in a Tesla without a seat belt is less safe than a motorcycle?? It's just ridiculous.

BTW, I apologize in advance if I missed your sarcasm XD

Yes sorry I caught the sarcasm After I posted my reply when I reread your post.

In many countries including Australia where I come from, Seat Belts are compulsorily fitted into buses ( getting kids to wear them is another issue) , Motorbike helmets are also compulsory although the injury/ fatality stats are multiples of cars. Your air bags are also designed differently in the USA to most places as they are considered a primary restraint, here they inflate and deflate so quickly in an accident most people don't even realize they've gone off.
