Week 9 (October 2018)

Rainy Seattle

We're known for being rainy, but the summer is usually dry and dead. The grass looks like hay ready to be harvested. But here we are in the fall and on our way to winter and that means the rainy season is upon us.

We've had rain this fall already but nothing drowning. It's been a bit of a mist in the morning or at night. Today however, we are having a full blown rainy Seattle day.

And I love it.

One of the things I love about the rain is that it makes the colors pop. Not only do the dead summer plants come back alive but the fall colors get a nice darker contrast and backdrop when things are wet.

The pavement and sidewalks get darker, the tree bark in the trees looks almost black. Makes those other colors jump out.

One of the issues we have to watch for is that with all the hills and the fallen leaves, it's very easy for the drainage to get blocked up and create ponds in the roads.

If left unchecked this one could end up being a new fishing hole for the locals.
