Is it for informing others, is it to help others? Is it to publish great informative material?
There is some of that here, some very good, but hard to find interesting material, but most of it is short quick posts in the hope of gaining steem; for others it is curating posts that they don't read, again in the hope for steem.
This kind of stuff reminds me of ‘Foucault’s Pendulum’ the great book by Umberto Eco. An illustrative quote from that book: in which the hero narrator (Casaubon) seeks out the secrets of the Illuminati. The publisher (Garamond Press) is selling occult periodicals, Secrets of the Occult and asks: “what do you think this magazine is about?”
Casaubon replies; “I believe it to be about explaining occult secrets”
“No” answers the magazines owner, “it’s all about selling advertising space”.
Later in the story the hero fully realises his employer, the magazine owners motivation; he is not really committed to the concept of the issue of assisting other to know secrets, he is only using it as a vehicle for financial gain.
Working for financial gain is not a bad thing but it is when it is in the disguise of saying its being done for other more acceptable reasons.
This is why there is so much JUNK on Steemit.
There are many such examples; it goes to show the real meaning of things, which are not always obvious at a superficial level.
Such secrets of why we do things are most often hidden from ourselves!
Yes so very true, it usually comes back to money for so many people, or selling something.
If everyone shared their gifts and talents then the quality of posts would be so much better. Shame more people don't know and feel 'the secret of giving' and how good it feels to give! :)
