Technology Cuts Both Ways

The internet of things, home automation, automated transportation, autonomous security, etc present a double edge sword. While new technology will make life and economies more efficient it also makes us all vulnerable.

This YouTube video demonstrates just how vulnerable we could be. Self driving cars may prevent accidents and save lives but they may also be open to terrorist or other malicious attacks. This is just one example, another can be found here:

While this is not a hacking incident it is clear that the technology for this sort of autonomous security is not fully ready for practical use and yet it's in use at malls. What is the state of its software security? It is technology like this that could be a real improvement to our daily lives but could also be an avenue for malice. 

Ultimately the issue comes down to security. World government, military organizations, banks, currency exchanges, online storage, and many other internet connected sites have been hacked. If we continue to put frontier technology ahead of software security then we may look back in ten years and regret it.
