Today, WikiLeaks publishes yet another batch of documents within its Vault 7 program, specifically designed to promulgate secret CIA documents.

The new information refers to the Imperial project and includes documents for three CIA hacker tools to compromise computers running the Apple Mac OS X operating system and various Linux distributions.

These are the following three hacker programs:

  • Achilles - Trojan Injection tool in standard OS X installation discs (.dmg)
  • SeaPea - Incredible Rootkit for OS X Systems
  • Aeris - automated implant for Linux systems

Chilles is a hacker tool that enables CIA operators to insert malicious code into standard Mac applications that are then packaged in the installation .DMG disk image. This is a typical one-time use agent that, after installing the operating system, runs in the background, and after executing the command or task it deletes absolutely all of its traces from the system. According to the documents, Achilles was created in 2011 by CIA experts.

SeaPea is a roulette for Mac OS X that gives hidden capabilities to hackers to run hacking software and can hide files, processes, and links from the user. In order for the Mac to be infected, root access is required.

Aeris is an implant written in C, which can be used to infect Linux computer systems, including Debian, CentOS, Red Hat, FreeBSD, and Solaris.
