It's fine as long as you verify that you published them - so you could do a post on the other website linking to your Steemit account as verification and then put the link to that post at the end of your Steemit post. As long as you are upfront about it and provide verification like that then nobody minds. People are concerned about plagiarism so that is the reason why.
