Privacy and security

The following is simply my perspective from what I have seen and experienced over the years.

This article in the is not a new norm but a misstep held by the media, congress and law enforcement for decades. NYTIMES

link to NYTimes - data-breaches.

I think its just that now with the proliferation of social media more people are learning about it and maybe waking up.

We were warned by groups like L0phtgoing on to become @stake in the 90s.

in 1998 L0pht in a senate hearing explains need and requirement for US to take on stronger IT security protocols. Falls on deaf ears for the most part. At least if you consider the state of the past 15 years of government security protocols.

On March 14, 1998, several members of L0pht sat at a panel at a standing-room-only group of infosec professionals at SOURCE:Boston. Present were Weld Pond, John Tan, Mudge, Space Rogue, Silicosis and Dildog.[15]
And while you are concerned about keeping your data safe remember that equifax leaked all our information without telling us for months and nobody went to jail.

Regardless of the original intent. this is why groups like #anonomyous whom hacked the Bay Area's Bart System should have been a warning to all shore up their security back in 2011.

Instead the media and Law enforcement reacted to the criminal issue of the case. "These hackers need to be brought to justice" was more that attitude vs. lets fix or security leaks. Just my opinion.
