The Story Behind Selena Gomez’s Ethereal Custom Coach Dress at the Met Gala

With a dedicated social media following that ranks in the hundreds of millions, Gomez has done her part to bring additional star-wattage to the brand. She was one of the first to test drive Vevers’s looks on the red carpet, beginning with last year’s Met Gala to which she wore a custom slip dress designed in collaboration with Vevers.

Gomez went on to wear his pieces to the AMAs and the British Fashion Awards, too—a leather moto dress and a frilly prairie frock, respectively—two radically different ideas that she met head-on without missing a beat. The role has also meant Gomez is trying her hand at design, and she was behind the Grace bag that she often carries. Tonight’s purse was inspired by an archival silhouette, though she lent her own touch by embossing a quote in her handwriting on the side.
