Going Out Alone - The Lone Wolf's ParadoxsteemCreated with Sketch.

When was the last time you went out alone?

Alone for some good coffee and pie in a local bistro.

Or the last time you took a leisure stroll?

Alone in your neighbourhood - taking in the atmosphere, the sights, and the people.

But then again, maybe going out alone is not your thing.

It may also be quite 'lame' to be seen alone:

1. Who will you talk to if you're alone?

2. Who will introduce you to the cool people?

3. Who will have your back in trouble?

Ever noticed the automatic swagger while entering a club or restaurant with friends waiting inside? It's an awesome feeling... a feeling of power. No one can take us down when we've got our homies rolling with us. Our herd.

But you know what. FUCK THAT!

We're not on this planet to be part of a herd. Like everyday sheep. Sheep live in herds because to feel safe. Isolate them and they’re pretty much wolf feed. I believe we're here with limited time on this planet to learn to be the hunters. Not the hunted. To be a wolf in the world of sheep.

Sure the world out there is a little scary, but we're no less.

We're the sperm that won. We survived 2012. All this pollution still hasn't killed us. We always survive shitty internet speeds. Think of how strong we are to just be living in 2016. Even with all the shit in our lives... we're alive and breathing. Willing to go out there and live in the world.

How can we not be strong enough to go out alone?

Friends, family, and acquaintances will expect us to conform to certain norms when we’re out with them.

It also works vice versa, developing in us a (false) sense of security; you watch my back I watch yours. Almost like sheep who promise to create a warning noise to warn others.

Welcome to the herd!

Simply going out alone is a way to discover ourselves, our boundaries, our beliefs, and our likes and dislikes. By being alone in scary, uncomfortable social situations, we often come to see our own shortcomings.

It’s not easy to do. And it’s definitely not impossible. Just like a practice, you need to be regular with it. Not every day, just regular.

HERE'S A TASK:

1. Pick any day of the week to go out alone.

2. Decide to do the kind of things you would if it was a date. But instead, do it alone.

3. Come back home, and journal it before sleeping.

There are days you'll want to give up. Which is easy. But you've got to tell yourself it's all or nothing. Like a wolf would.

Remind yourself: Sheep graze in a herd. Wolves hunt alone.

P.S. Not advocating that you lock people out from your life and live isolated all the time. That's a hellhole you're digging for yourself.

I've got a partner and friends too, but I have brunches alone at some small cafes almost daily, and I have a habit to stroll alone in the woods. I don't feel awkward if I go alone to some party. The pleasure of being by myself is necessary for my survival, though I'm not a complete loner, I'm not afraid of people, and they usually feel well in my society.
