SWEET STATEMENT.

Pick a phrase that you like and say it to spread as much joy as possible. This will give you a break from the automatic holiday responses as well as any “I’m fine. And you?” responses if this challenge is taken at any point in the year. It’ll keep you in the moment and excited about your new phrase. It’s also imperative that you look people in the eye when you say it.

This is not a phrase you need to say to everybody who passes you by. However, those you ineract with, either by choice or circumstance, should get some attention. I see over and over again how some who work in retail or the service industry are dismissed whether it be inentionally rude or not.

Some will argue that they’re introverts and it’s not their fault. To that, I say, don’t use it as a crutch. People don’t have to be ignored because you’ve grown a shell. Take a deep breath in the name of human decency and interact. I know it’s not going to be easy, that’s why it’s a challenge. If you need to pick eye contact OR phrase, go for it. Progress is progress. If you really want to challenge yourself, do both.

BONUS: You can revisit day 6 of 30 Days of Touchdown. Unlike *challenge 6, for today’s challenge, you can mention anything they do to put themselves together or their anatomy (KEEP IT CLASSY); I would suggest sticking to compliments from the shoulders up or their hands and arms - even then, make sure the compliment is only driven by a kind heart and nothing else (e.g. “I like your hair.” “Great maintenance on that beard.” “Your eyelashes are beautiful.” “Your gym time is treating your arms well. Good job” “Wow! Your nails are so pretty.”). Basically, don't hit on them or give a tone that you are. Really. People are trying to do their jobs - just innocently brighten their day.

If you keep your phrase short and sweet, you won’t get tired of it (just a suggestion). Of course, your phrase is up to you. If you’re having trouble dreaming up the perfect phrase, you can use one of these:

“All blessings all day.”
“May goodness get’cha.”
“Hope your day stays lovely.”
“Warm wishes.”
“Thank you for being you.”
“Glad you became part of my day.”

I’m sure you can come up with some awesome ones on your own, but you can use these for default. Pick one that won’t sound forced. You can try them all out; however, the more you stick with one, the more comfortable you’ll get saying it.

Whichever phrase you decide on, say it and mean it. Deliver it with a smile. And, make that eye contact. Most of all, have a good time spreading joy with how you decide you will spread it.
