It should be noted that in 2015 the Internet penetration increased by 61% but the service has greatly deteriorated due to lack of maintenance and investment to improve the technology platform. According to some studies developed in 2018 by Speedtest Global Index, the internet connection is among the three worst in the world due to the slow service with a download speed of 2Mbps, which prevents people from seeing content in the network for the slow speed..
Censorship in Venezuela is worrisome as the country is going through a major economic crisis that has caused a population migration to other countries in search of economic improvements. In the country there have been human rights violations that are disclosed through the different social networks that are subsequently restricted through the Cantv company, preventing access to truthful information to the population.
Users cannot express freely on social networks and are persecuted by the government if this information is not in their favor.
Another situation that has affected the internet service is the power failures due to the constant blackouts it has presented due to lack of maintenance leaving a large number of people in solitary confinement.
On the other hand, some information pages are responsible for disseminating news for Venezuelans but these are censored by the government using DDoS attacks or Denial of Service Attack that consists of sending large numbers of requests for access to the server of a web page to same time from different IP addresses causing the server to reload and the page to stop working.
In this year 2019, the following portals have been attacked:
El Estimulo, KonZapata, Alnavio, Climax Magazine, Bien¬mesabe and Urbe, Aporrea. In the month of May users reported not being able to access the Runrunes page, the portal informed that the reason was a DDoS attack which was due to the publication of a Victims Monitor report 2018: 256 people died at the hands of the FAES in Caracas
The censures applied in the different news portals and social networks have been due to the intermittent blockages applied by the Cantv company, preventing the access of information to a large number of Venezuelans who require truthful information.
To conclude, I believe that Internet access must be free a space where the Venezuelan population can choose which content to access to search for truthful information and use the portals to exercise the right to freedom of expression without any restrictions, censorship and blockages.
The Internet must be guaranteed in optimal conditions for the entire country, so that you can surf the web without any failures and the user can discern and express their opinion without being censored..
