I saw a Ted Talk a while back talking about personality types. The guy broke down your personality into 4 buckets of colors.

The Ted Talk was called Your Personality & Your Brain.

As I was watching this, I noticed my color was a red.

A red is a doer.

They typically want to get the job done & is not there for funny business.

But I wanted to see if others thought the same for me.

So I had them watch the video so they could find their color & what they thought of mine.

A whopping 7 people said I was a red.

Guess that's a clear consensus.

Nowadays, I'm happy being a red.

But in the school system, I was very confused.

I felt as though being a doer was wrong.

In the school system, they scoff at people who want to do before they know.

They label them the lazy ones or the crazy ones.

I remember on my final year as an electrical engineer in undergrad, I had to make a radio.

Our professor spent weeks and weeks giving us lectures for creating this.

He explained the concepts of the circuit, the parts we would need & gave us some formulas to help us on our journey.

The whole time I was thinking, 'quit talking so much and let me make the damn radio!'

I hated the lecture.

As 6 weeks went by, I finally got a chance to make this radio.

Each engineer was given our circuit boxes. In those boxes came capacitors, batteries, wires and much more.

Finally, it was time to do.

Those 2 days of doing outweighed those 6 weeks of theory.

Not even a close.

The other fellow engineers learned so much from ACTUALLY creating the radio vs just hearing about it.

That moment went onto show me something.

The real world doesn't work like the school world.

In school, we are taught with lectures, power points and textbooks.

We are taught if we study A LOT, then we will pass our classes.

But in the real world?

If you study a lot, you will get analysis paralysis.

One of the main reasons for analysis paralysis is that we execute school behavior in the real world.

We think if we study a lot , then we will "pass" this challenge we have in our lives.

But here's the problem.

In school, we are taught that we are studying for an exam. You study these concepts, and you will pass the exam.

But in the real world, there is no exam.

Well, it's not discrete at least.

We have ongoing challenges which happen in our lives. But there are no set boundaries like there is for an exam.

Therefore, you need to be able to think past school if you want to thrive in the real world.

Not just survive, but THRIVE.

Most people are just surviving.

Going about their day to day lives without any form of risk.

But that lack of risk is causing analysis paralysis on small things which don't factor into our dreams.

From the grand scheme of things, thinking is a relatively new feature for humans.

Critical thinking, at least.

And since our species has discovered the faculties of thinking, we were amazed by it.

Unfortunately though, we are never TAUGHT how to think.

We are just barked it as a command.

'Think Billy!' they say.

But thinking is a skill. You need to learn the fundamentals and organize mechanisms to think like an all star.

'How can I make it easier to organize?'

You think with experiences and fill in the gaps via theory.

In the real world, those who do the best are the ones who take action quick & in volumes.

The action leads to personal data aka experiences.

Experiences have knowledge & emotional connections tied to it, which makes it MUCH more noticeable to our mind.

By reflecting those experiences, you get questions.

NOW, you search for the answers to those questions via theory.

It's sort of reverse from what we were taught in school.

For example: I was taught the theory for 6 weeks and allowed to actually build the radio for 2 weeks.

I propose we learn a little theory to get started. Then we try to build the radio for 6 weeks & THEN learn the theory for 2 weeks.

This is the best way to avoid analysis paralysis.

Just do & think about it later.

So simple, yet we want to make it complex.

But do yourself a favor.

If you think you are suffering from analysis paraylsis, then you are.

Just begin.

And just so you know, there is no 'perfect time' to begin.

The 'perfect time' is your brain using the concept of the test from school in the real world.

But like I said, school practices don't often translate into the real world if you want to thrive.

The simple ideas are often ignored.

But these are the ideas which were meant to be taken seriously from the beginning.

Do more & think later.

That is it.

That is the cure for analysis paralysis.
