We're all potential jurors.

This is a little difficult to navigate. Forgive me if I get some of my wording less than perfect.

I understand that everybody has a different tolerance for just about everything.

I just bought a copy of The Righteous Mind for a friend. That book has a section that came with a warning because it dealt with the graphic details of a case of voluntary cannibalism. That wasn't easy for me to read.

Over the last several years, I've spent a lot of time to familiarize myself with self-defense law. Seeing people die comes with the territory.

I don't want us to ever become desensitized or dispassionate to any of this. Far be it for me to tell you what you should expose yourself to.

That said, we are all potential jurors. We all have a better than zero chance of being called for jury duty, and having it end up as a murder trial in which the defendant is claiming self-defense. In this day and age, you're probably gonna have to watch a video of somebody dying.

I would dare to say that we all have an obligation to be strong enough to handle these kinds of cases, and evaluate them reasonably.

I know that we all have different views. I think that it should be generally agreed upon that you shouldn't be expected to let an attacker win. You shouldn't be expected to let a person kill you or rape you or permanently damage your body before you defend yourself.

Almost as much as we're all potential jurors, all of us who have decided that we don't have a duty to let an attacker win are potential defendants.

We would all benefit from some level of dispassion. We would all benefit from a certain level of desensitization. If we don't have that, we're gonna have more innocent people in prison.
