The society has been defined, categorised, classed and labelled. What we do is chose which to belong.
For one a many times, I've been caught in between the divide - the corporate and the secular - and have been having a hard time clinching to one and maintaining it.
I mean, the corporate world - all suit and ties, loads of seriousness, premeditated behaviors, forced maturity and other behaviors that usually follow the corporate societal dictates and expectations.
The implications being that even your social media platforms are keenly monitored, and your level of interactions measured; that you cannot come on to Facebook to do what other people do: your post has to be timely, when necessary, and it must always make sense!
Meaning you cannot just 'yarn anyhow!'
And then the secular world - perceived to be those of responsibilities, filled with trendy fashions, hip-hop, youthful vibes, exuberance, and all whatnot.
Of course, anyone with a prospect for leadership wouldn't wanna be caught in this category!
And that has been my dilemma for years - me being secularist; a lover of hip-hop, social dialectics, and an emerging leader - how could I possibly balance the two?
Then I fell on this word 'INDIVIDUAL'
(Read: Indivi-DUAL.)
And my philosophy changed!
Yea, the philosophy behind indiviDUALism is that we're made of two, even though we may actually look one.
Yes, don't be scared to flaunt this you and the other you.
Cause being just one was not part of the plan.
Don't be scared to be a gentleman today, and still act crazy the next.
You can look presidential and still do hood.
Yes, you can be scholarly and still slay.
Don't be scared to loosen those ties, fling your your shirts and go skrrrrrrr...
Never let too much suit and seriousness hold you to ransom.
Life's short. Don't build it around just one you.
Because at the end, the society you're trying to fashion yourself into, to impress, would eventually outlive you.
Shift boundaries. Explore and discover.
Be real. Be you. Be two.
Be indivi-DUAL.
