Day 3 Challenge:
Do something for someone you love to make their day a little bit easier. Beginners can start with opening doors or bringing the person water. Novices can help out with chores and tasks. Advanced givers can run an errand or send some grub to a friend or family member in need.
The act of giving feels good. The act of giving without the intent of receiving feeds the soul. So, give your soul a bite to eat or serve it a buffet; that’s up to you. “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed” is sound advice from Maya Angelou.
Research reveals that when you are a being of genuine service (not one you are being paid for, forced to do, or guilted into) your endorphins are activated; so, basically, a happy pill. Time Magazine’s Jenny Santi claims, “Helping others may just be the secret to living a life that is not only happier but also healthier, wealthier, more productive, and meaningful” in her article, *“The Secret of Happiness is Helping Others” (Jenny Santi’s article also gives some great advice as to how to avoid being drained by giving of yourself, your energy, and your time). When you are happy, your heart feels good. When your heart feels good, it embodies love.
What does this all mean, really? This means that for challenge three, you will provide an act of service for someone you love. Why someone you love? The fact that it’s someone you care about makes you more willing and it makes the task at hand easier. It will fill your actions with more pure intentions of just wanting to give that person a break.
You can help with a chore or a task they’ve been putting off. If you are naturally a giver, step up your giving game. You’re one to hold the door open or wash someone’s dishes. Great! This time, help wash their car or help them with managing their time by running an errand for them. Have they been short on cash and you’re afloat? Send your friend or family member delivery.
Do something kind that is feasible for you and feels enjoyable even at the mere thought of it. Happy giving!
