Steemit.com SEO - Google Search Results Questions

in seo •  8 years ago  (edited)

Do any of the devs in the community know how to solve these?

  • Can we make Steemit.com be marked as "safe" by Norton instead of "?"
  • Can we have better control over what shows up under the description?
(Project Curie is awesome, but I don't think it is the best thing to be showing up as the description of the website when people search for it on Google.)
  • Can we get a better list of sub-items?
  • Can add better descriptions for the sub-items?

Unfortunately as far as I know Google doesn't allow manual editing of the sitelinks that appear. I believe they show based on popularity what they think is the best results.

The only thing admin to the site can do is demote sitelinks they don't like via Google Webmaster Tools. Building a XML sitemap and submitting it via Webmaster Tools can also be helpful but doesn't guarantee any results.

Lot of truth here. There's only so much you can do with Google.

I agree with you @timcliff, this has to be corrected because it could become a reason why people will refuse to visit the site.

Yes, All google searches for steem should direct people to my landing page.

...with your unique affilaite id added to the end of your landing page, of course!

There are currently a number of meta tags on steemit.com:

Perhaps Google is out-of-date in their index?

Or the og:description should also be in its own description?

There is a lot of discussion online why Google might not be using the meta tag description. It seems it is only a suggestion for them.

steemit needs a sitemap for the googles - regularly submitting sitemap files with good content can create better google searches/rankings

I don't see the Norton thing in my Google Search results. Is that something new Google is trying out with Norton or do you have to have Norton installed on your PC?

Oh, I have norton installed on my PC. You are right. That is something different than Google SEO.

Does anyone know about how to get added to norton's trusted list?

I Google'd and found this https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20090410134005EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

I guess the admins/owner of this website can submit for them to evaluate it.

Awesome!! Thank you :)
