South Korea is a major force in cryptocurrency trading. Significant exchange volume flows through the country. However, how is Korea actually using blockchain technology to power its industry? I was glad to have the opportunity to meet Seoul Mayor Park Won Soon and to spend an hour with him and the Choson Exchange team to discuss both North Korea and blockchains - North Korea being my favorite ideation platform for the use of trustless systems. Mayor Park plans to make Seoul a Blockchain City, with more details to be announced about his plan.
Later that week, I also had the opportunity to join my President Halimah Yacob and President Moon Jae-In at the State Dinner at the Istana in Singapore. President Moon concluded several memorandum of understandings with Singapore for cooperation on Smart Cities, the Internet of Things, and the Fourth Industry Revolution. I hope that blockchain will underpin some of this cooperation and appreciate the opportunity to bear witness to deepening Singapore and Korea ties, both North and South.
