A Sepia Moon?!

A Sepia Moon?! 🤔

Well, I don't know if it was a good idea or not but I did it anyway!

There are names for the Full Moons each month...

Wolf Moon - January
Snow Moon - February
Worm Moon - March
Pink Moon - April
Flower Moon - May
Strawberry Moon - June
Buck Moon - July
Sturgeon Moon - August
Harvest or Corn Moon - September
Hunter Moon - October
Beaver Moon - November
Cold Moon - December

Most of them have alternate names as well. Then we get into "Waxing", "Waning", "New", "Blue", "Black", "Super".....and so on and so on....

You can probably guess the meaning behind each of the names. Most are pretty obvious and coincide with the seasons . Here is just one link if you want to learn more.

So, I'm just gonna throw Sepia Moon or, shall I say, Moons into the mix...lol.

My photos were taken at different phases and the sepia is pretty subtle. It is the moon after all! 😉

Unbelievably pictures What did you use to take them..?. When I use my tele photo lens all I get is a white dot....

Thank you very much @manorvillemike!! I used a Nikon P610. I was looking for a new camera after I dunked my other camera in the water at Kilgore Falls. I found the P610 for an awesome deal. It is pretty good for distance when I can keep a steady enough hand. I have to work on close-ups with it so am still using my old camera and phone for those. The one I dunked in the water (when I fell in..lol) has had a couple of little glitches but still working. I will say that the P610 will focus on the subject closest to it so trying to capture the moon or birds through branches is iffy but otherwise I love it. I only knew about this model from @traciyork and seeing her terrific shots. 😉

I'll check it out... I also lost a camera in the river.... I got a nikon D3500 must be a way of getting the moon with it.. I just don't know how... Thanks @deerjay

You're welcome @manorvillemike! That is how I feel about the close-ups. I know in my case it is probably something to do with the operator (me)..lol. I was looking at the D3500 bundle originally but was still outta my price range. I'm still on the lookout for another but gotta save some money up. 💰

I just checked the P610 ...going 4 $600 in walmart....I only paid $300 for my D3500 bundle with a nice case to hold everything.

I didn't even know they were still selling them. I bought mine used for just under 200 on ebay. I got really lucky as it came with the original box, charger, a sd card, extra battery and a case. The listing only showed the camera, battery and case but my instincts said to go for it and I'm glad I did. Most were going for 350 and up. Figured I could buy a charger anywhere. Wow on the D3500 bundle and I'm keeping my eyes open for a bundle deal like that. I only found the bundle here for around 450. I was looking for a few weeks before I saw the auction for the one I got and went for it. I would search around @manorvillemike. I also looked on face book marketplace before finding the one on ebay.It's a Nikon Coolpix P610.

It can be really daunting to find something that fits your price and needs. I look at what other people are using that I really like and go from there. I love the shots you get with the D3500. Does it say how far the telephoto lens goes to? The Nikon P610 is a lens that doesn't come off and zooms to 60x. I liked that I didn't have to change lenses as I miss a lot of shots anyway trying to focus in. I've had it for less than a year but I still use my phone camera the most and the the Sony Still I have for some macro and very short distance. 🙂

There are some better prices on ebay but most are pre-owned. I also only buy things like this in USA cause there are a lot of listings from Japan so if you go this route then check the persons feedback ratings and such.

Nice Moon shots @deerjay !!
I was able to image the Snow Moon this month =)
Moon looks great in Sepia, seems to bring out more fine detail than color or B&W.

These are fantastic photos of the moon and it’s phrases Dee.

It looks like something has been nibbling at the moon( near the bottom). Maybe it is made out of cheese and there’s an alien mouse up there. 🐭 🌙 💕

Thank you so much @angiemitchell!! It is interesting to find out the meaning behind each one. Most are easy when you think of seasons, plants and animals but I had to look up Beaver Moon. It is named for the beavers becoming more active in preparing for Winter. Many of the names have origins in Native American culture but the Celts and others have names as well. It became a bit overwhelming yet interesting looking it up so I decided to go with a simplified approach..lol. 😁
