The Italian League Serie A was originally initiated in 1929-1930. It was played in "regional groups". This League is also known as the "Scudetto" which means in Italian the small shield. We also hear people calling it "Calcio Italiano" which means soccer in Italian.

Why do we call it "Scudetto"? Already said that it refers to a small shield. The winning team will have to wear a small coat of arms with the Italian flag on the jersey in the following season.
Juventus are the leading team with the most successful championships. They have won till this season 30 titles, followed by AC Milan with almost 20.
The team is allowed to wear a golden star on his jersey, above their club badge, after winning 10 titles. So, we can say that Juventus have 3 stars, however, Milan and Internazionale have one star each.
