I don't know what Leftovers is about, but The Crossing is actually about the people who claim to be from future made as realistically as possible. I can't complain about any anti-intuitive behaviour of any characters or such, which is what I love about the show.
Locke and Key - I don't know if you are the target group. I can't recall if you watched something similar. Let's say it is set in a normal world, where one family is unaware of its own secret when the father dies. They move to their ancestral home and slowly find out there are magical keys giving them certain abilities. One of them is truly dangerous... In quick, it is about a children/juveniles with access to certain skills and a quest to protect it that they don't believe at first at all except the youngest one. You might probably recall some similar stories. Then, there is a comedy part of their school time.
I want to avoid spoilers, so perhaps check a few reviews, a book description or an episode or two. It is only starting in the first season.
It was a cool show where an important % of the human population suddenly disappears... just like that, and the drama that ensues. It was one of those shows with a beautiful song that made the dramatic scenes even more dramatic. A good show for sure.
I read The Crossing was canceled apparently? That would be a shame because it looked interesting.
About Locke and Key, the fact it has a little comedy turns me off because I think comedy sometimes cheapens the entire production, except in shows where comedy is the main genre of course. I might give it a chance down the road thought.
There is an intriguing show that I haven't watched yet but I have read interesting things about it. It is called Devs, it is from Hulu and has the same director of Ex Machina. This is their imdb and rotten tomatoes pages. I will probably wait for the entire season to be ready and binge-watch it if it keeps its high rating.

If The Crossing was cancelled, it must have been mostly because it has already been finished. Its ending doesn't feel hastened or partial, I don't see why it would ever need another season.
Leftovers looks interesting but not similar. In the Crossing, the new people actually appear of nowhere and below the sea. First, they are considered survivors from a Russian research vessel, but they speak fluent English and talk about the future. You can check it, it doesn't feel unfinished at all.
I don't know if the school drama of Locke and Key is part of the book. But it feels like it could be. The only part is that them going normally to school and then playing with magic keys doesn't come together when I think about it.
Thanks for a link.

If that's the case, then I will add The Crossing to my soon to watch list. Thanks for the recommendation!
