The Release of Steem Edit
I am hereby releasing Steem Edit. Perhaps other people might want to work with me. The thing is somewhat limited.
It is the minimum viable product. It allows you to include images, and post to the block chain. It allows you to save and load your posts. Posts are saved
with the extension "sea.zip". These files are Steem Edit Archives.
This is how it looks:
Whether you run Windows or Linux you may download it below. You will need to install piston for it to work, however.

If not completely obvious by now, Steem Edit runs on your desktop or laptop computer. It will work even if your internet connection goes down.
Bugs in Steem Edit
I have tried to make this minimal. It can only do plain text and images and for now via the menu. It passes Markdown code without escaping it, however. This is temporary. Once this is complete, you will be able to do all of the formatting in the editor.
Future Directions
I am thinking the next thing I should do is allow the various kinds of headings, and text formatting. This seems to be low hanging fruit and I believe it is essential for most users. Getting this up to where Word is in terms of what it can do. I am working out the features of bold and italic now.
People
I would like to thank @xeroc for piston. Piston is the engine that Steem Edit calls. Another developer that makes stuff for steemit is @rolandp. And then there is @charlieshrem who motivated me to release kind of early by independently inventing my idea in his web-based editor that is similar. I had not told anyone what I was doing. Of course none of this would be possible without @dantheman and @ned. So here it is, a little premature but its out. @ned said he would vote up what is good for the ecosystem. I don't remember what @l0ki has done but he might be interested in this too.
Good work! I think you should opensource it to let other steemers contribute. I am going to wait until there's more WYSIWYG functionality, so keep up the good work!

Thank you for posting. Is this download available for the ipad? Having trouble loading and Steem Edit sounds like it would be helpful. Thank you for working on this feature.
