What is Steem Edit?

Steem Edit is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor for SteemIt.com. Instead of editing in one pane and seeing a preview you edit in one pane and what you see is what you get. Because there is an API for the Steem network called Piston it is possible to write word processor like programs that you can post to the Steem network/Steemit directly from within the program. Steem Edit is this kind of editor.

Why Steem Edit?

Although Steemit.com own web-based editor allows you to put more kinds of text, it doesn't let you include an image inline. Instead your image shows up as a tilde (~) symbol. This is not a big problem for some. For others it might be very important. Steem Edit shows the image inline how it should appear in your post when it is on line.
Steem Edit gives me a platform to demonstrate ideas that could be rolled into steemit.com's web-based editor. It is a bit more powerful to show an idea then to try to explain it. If there are users that would like to see true WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editing, then there will be downloads of Steem Edit and later a following. If we get this on a Trending page, developers might decide to make it a priority to include features from Steem Edit.
