Seven Days Outside - Statue Friday

in sevendaysoutside •  6 years ago  (edited)

This is a sculpture in my home town of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, UK that was designed by artist Liz Lemon.

Apparently, the sculpture is on the old
Markham Engineering Factory site. The signatures on the base are of ex-factory workers. The artist visited the local social club and asked a number of ex-workers to sign their names. These were then cut into pieces of stainless steel which was embedded into the concrete. I think this one might be a relative of mine. The Manthorpe Engineering Ltd actually built the sculpture.

I really like the sculpture. It's one of my favourites.

Apparently, it lights up at night so I will have to go back at some point.

You do things when the opportunities come along. I've had periods in my life when I've had a bundle of ideas come along, and I've had long dry spells. If I get an idea next week, I'll do something. If not, I won't do a damn thing.

That is a pretty cool statue, you should definitely go back to see it lit up someday!

Thank you. Definitely going back!

I bet you can hear the ocean well in that thing.
