Rusty Farm Machinery Detail

Grungy Farm Machinery

Some weeks ago I visited the National Trust property Saddlescombe Farm and Newtimber Hill in Sussex, UK. I posted this photograph from my visit there in the monomad contest.

There is a new photography contest based on @erikah's #sevendaysoutside challenge which is a collaboration with @photocircle . Wednesday is for Rust Art entries so I thought I'd enter the original version of my photograph. Full details of the contest can be found by clicking here.

I love the grunginess and the cobwebs and the spring. 😁

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I took this photograph in the information barn but there was no one there to help with any details and not a lot of specific information relating to the old farm machinery that is stored there. So I don't know what the piece of machinery is.

However, here is a photograph of the whole thing so some of the more knowledgeable amongst you may be able to work it out. 😂

Is that some sort of seed box do you think?

This is generally where I would jump in and give you my $0.02 about what it is and so forth, but I'm kind of wondering if it's all there. The front part on the ground looks like it was broken off of something else. Could very well be a seed box. The gears on the top of the left hand wheel (maybe there's one on the right, too—can't see it as well) seem to be going to the box, so maybe there's a lever somewhere that would open it a bit?

I've no idea @glenalbrethsen. I don't think there was anaything there to say what it actually is. 😁

I would love to shoot that. Great job!
Rust is where it is at for me. :)
I would also like to work with it in an abstract way. I live in farm country.

Thank you @photobe.

If you live in farm country I'm sure you will find plenty of opportunities. 😁

Adding electrons to iron again? Rusty Rusty.

Rusty Rusty Rusty Rusty Rusty Rusty. There must be a song in there @spozone. 😊

Felt like u could get tetanus lol

I'm pretty sure you really would get tetanus if you stabbed yourself with it @vanessapineda7. 😂 😂 😂

I really dont doubt it lol

Great rusty photo! I would guess planter, too. But no idea what kind! There are different ones for different crops.Love that you captured all the spider web a long with the rust! Thanks for entering!

There are different ones for different crops.

I didn't know that @melinda010100. It looks like quite a big box. Do you think it might have been used for potatoes? 😊

I was wondering that, too! Alfalfa seeders were different than corn planters, and I assume you needed something different to plant cotton. Today's machinery is much more integrated and you can use the same planter for different crops by changing out plates and various other parts.

Glad you thought so @ykdesign. Thank you for visiting. 😊

I'm pretty sure that is a planter. But I'm not an authority :) I'm one generation removed from the farm because we moved away from the farm when I was little. My kids a purely city folk.

I thought it looked like a planter too @steven-patrick. And I'm going for potatoes. 😂

howdy again @gillianpearce! yes that's definitely a seed box grain planter, take it from an old Kansas farmboy.

OK @janton if an old Kansas farmboy says it's a seed box grain planter it must indeed be a seed box grain planter. 😁

it is! guaranteed in fact when I was a kid before we got better equipment we used one similar to that. but we're talkin antique equipment now, like that one. really enjoyed that photo gillianpearce.

really enjoyed that photo gillianpearce.

To hear that makes all the work worthwhile @janton. 😊
