Close-up of the pattern adjustment.
Las summer my friend and I wanted a bag a bit like this one by Baggu bags. At the time we decided to make one ourselves but we never got enough time to fulfill our wish. After a long time my friend even bought a pattern on Etsy by Mimi Couture.
The video tutorial for the bag is on You Tube and it’s in French :
The instructions that came with the pattern are in English so we shouldn’t have any major problems to follow the steps.
The first stage was to print out the pattern pieces and then sellotaping the relevant pages. After doing that I laid the pieces on the table :
We decided to lengthen the bag so that we could fit in our tablets (I-pads). You may be able to see where we decided to lengthen the pattern by 13 cm.
I drew a straight line connecting two ‘notches’ in the pattern and then cut along that line. I then found some extra (scrap) office paper putting reference lines where I then laid the bag pattern pieces that were to be lengthened. As you can see below the body of the bag and a side piece became much longer but they should still look alright :
My friend bought all of the materials including the fabric, lining, padding, and zippers that we’ll be using. I’m looking forward to starting something different especially after such a long wait. I’m also looking forward to learning new techniques like sewing the long zippers and making bags. When you sew a bag you don’t have to worry so much about the ‘size fit’ so making bags as presents or to sell should be a good idea.
