Singles are a special sect of individuals with characteristic vigor and enthusiasm. Singles are filled with visions, dreams, aspirations and plans. These individuals are blessed with great fire burning in their bones. It is clear that the most exciting and enjoyable stage of one’s life is the period he/she spends as a single. God has so blessed this phase of life and made it possible for everyone to pass through it.
Just as Adam was given the entire Eden but restricted from eating from the tree of knowledge so has God restricted these active individuals from the recreation activity called sex. In God’s plan sex was designed for married couples as the bible says
Marriage is honourable and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will Judge (Heb 13:4)
God Himself instituted marriage (Gen 2:24) and placed sex within the confines of marriage for the following reasons:
Procreation
To promote love among married couples
To avoid fornication
For pleasure among married couples (Prov 5:19)
Finally for oneness (and they shall be one flesh)
Therefore, sexual relationship among married couples is the one God approves and the bible promotes complete abstinence before marriage.
For this is the will of God even your sanctification that you should abstain from sexual immorality (1 Thess 4:3).
God has not confined sex within marriage to deprive the singles from pleasure but among several reasons, He commands against it to protect singles from unwanted pregnancies i.e. children born to parents who do not want them and to protect parents from children they are not prepared for. The fact is that fornicators do focus on the recreational aspect of sex and forget the procreational aspect. God has also done this to avert its adverse effects on those who indulge in it (the effects will be discussed in subsequent pages) but know this.
“You were brought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body”.…………………….. 1 Corinth. 6:20.
