Have you ever heard of bondage meditative? The union of the two practices may seem strange at first, but it is an alternative for those who want to combine spirituality and sexuality. Everything, of course, as long as both partners agree.

What is bondage meditative?

The technique is to be totally tied to win a state of relaxation. Eastern philosophical schools of past centuries that deal with meditation practices mention to be tied is able to calm the body and the soul.

The concept assumes that giving or receiving pain can lead to an altered state of consciousness. Thus, the meditative bondage is about focusing your vital energies and develop harmony and balance to life.

For couples, the technique of learning helps to establish a relationship of trust between them, which can help in time of combining meditation and sex. Also discussed are concepts of Mushin and Wu Wei and how they apply to slavery and diaphragmatic breathing.

This technique is similar to the Shibari, an ancient Japanese form of bondage with rope. The origin comes from Hojo-jutsu, a martial art. In the late 1800s, the Hojo-jutsu evolved and came to be called Kinbaku, the art of erotic bondage which also uses strings to promote relaxation.

The technique promises to cause relaxation.

Bondage can help you relax?

If some see bondage as an aggressive technique, studies show that similar practices may offer positive aspects in a spiritual sphere. A study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine found that BDSM practitioners had more positive psychological traits than the general public.

Practitioners reported feeling less neurotic, more extroverted and less sensitive to rejection. A second study, conducted by researchers at Northern Illinois University, USA, interviewed 22 participants and found that given the pain, cortisol levels rose during the ritual.

Nevertheless, something strange happened: they reported feeling less stress. This effect may not be so different from what people experience during yoga or even during meditation. The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is responsible, in part, by distinguishing the sensations.

If less blood flowing to the brain during these intensely painful experiences, the result may be a sense of unity. Therefore, the practice bondage mixture and meditation can be really favorable for people.

But of course for that they need to be comfortable with the idea and fully convinced of its benefits. Participants indicate that while the main idea is not sexual, you may have related benefits.

The act of being tied up can cause more excitement and help improve their sexual relationship. Talk to your partner about it and, if both are willing to try, maybe this is not the chance to spice up the relationship.

So, what did you think of meditative bondage? Have you ever thought to try?
