Hello! I adopted a 1 year old terrier mix, Rosie, about 2 months ago. She's very reactive towards other dogs when we're out walking in Metro Detroit. Lunging, barking, the whole chaotic ordeal. I'm hoping to find a trainer who can help us with positive, force-free techniques to work through this reactivity. If you know of any skilled dog behaviorists in the Detroit area with experience handling reactive dogs, please let me know! I want to help Rosie stay calm and controlled when she sees other pups.
Reactive Dog Training in Detroit

Oh man, I've so been there with my rescue terrier Mix, Piper. Her reactivity was tough to handle at first! I actually worked with the trainer Joey Luke here locally in Detroit for that exact issue. His positive reinforcement methods helped Piper stay much calmer greeting other pups. And I loved that Joey guarantees his training too, which shows how confident he is in his skills with reactive dogs. I'll never forget Piper's first controlled meet-and-greet with another dog under Joey's guidance. She looked to me for treats and praise instead of freaking out like she usually would. It was a breakthrough moment! With consistency, she got better and better at staying calm seeing other dogs on walks. I bet Joey could help your Rosie too. Check out his service guarantee on his website https://joeylukesdogtraining.com/our-dog-training-guarantee/ for specifics on his reactive dog training programs. Wishing you both success! This is definitely a trainable issue.
