Mohammad Hamidur Rahman (born February 2, 1953 - died October 28, 1971), a martyr freedom fighter participating in the liberation war of Bangladesh. The government of Bangladesh awarded him the Birshreshtha title for his outstanding heroism in the war. Hamidur Rahman, who was martyred at the age of 18, is the youngest among the best medal winners of Shaheed freedom fighters.

Birth and Education

Mohammad Hamidur Rahman was born on 2 February 1953 in the Khorsa Khalishpur village of Jessore district (presently Jhenaidah district) in Maheshpur upazila. His father's name was Abbas Ali Mandal and his mother's name Musamath Kaisunnessa. In his childhood, he studied at Khalishpur Primary School and subsequently local night school.

Career

In 1970, Hamidur joined the army as a sepoy. His first and last unit was the East Bengal Regiment. After the admission in the army, he was sent to the East Bengal Regiment Center of Chittagong. On the night of March 25, the East Bengal Regiment of Chittagong participated in the war of liberation by announcing revolt against Pakistani occupation forces in a number of other units.

Role in the War of Liberation

On March 25, 1971, at the attack of the Pakistan army, he came to his village from his service place. On one side of the house, the day went on to join the liberation war in the Dhalai Border Outpost located on the eastern edge of Dhalai tea garden of Srimangal thana of Sylhet district. He fought in Sector 4. In October 1971, Hamidur Rahman took part in an operation to capture the Bally Bally near the East East Bengal Company. Mukti Bahini reached the target at four o'clock in the morning. In front of two platoon and a platoon on the back, the enemy was moving forward towards the enemy. A mine exploded when the enemy came near. Although the Muktibahini reached very near the border outpost, the Pakistani army could not move forward to shoot machine guns from the south-western edge of the outpost. On October 28th, a major clash erupted between the 1st East Bengal Regiment and the 30th Frontier Regiment of the Pakistan army. 125 freedom fighters of the East Bengal Regiment participated in the war. Mukti Bahini decided to attack the grenade attack on machine gun post of the Pakistan army. Hamidur Rahman was given the responsibility to launch the grenade. He started attacking the grenade with a canyon through the mountain canal. Two grenades hit the machine gun post successfully, but soon after Hamidur Rahman was shot. In that case, he went to the machine gun post and started a war with two Pakistani soldiers. In this way Hamidur Rahman was able to make machine gun post invalid. On this occasion, the freedom fighters of the East Bengal Regiment proceeded with great enthusiasm, and the enemy was able to overcome the border of Pakistan by overcoming the Pakistan army. But Hamidur Rahman could not taste the victory, after the capture of the outpost, the freedom fighters rescued the body of Shaheed Hamidur Rahman. Hamidur Rahman's body was buried in a family graveyard in the local family of Hatimarechra village in Tripura state, just a few miles away from the border. The graveyard in the low-lying area was once flooded under the water. On 27 October 2007, the caretaker government of Bangladesh decided to bring back the body of Hamidur Rahman to Bangladesh. Accordingly, on 10th December 2007, a team of Bangladesh Rifles took Hamidur Rahman's body at Tripura border, and with the due dignity, the remains of the martyrs were brought to Bangladesh along with Bibirhat border in Comilla. On December 11, Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman was buried at the intellectual graveyard of Dhaka.
