Today I listened to pretty powerful and eloquent audio excerpt from José Luis Stevens, author of the book “Awaken the Inner Shaman”. While it’s obvious this content was published to serve as a hook for his paid courses and audiobooks, the stuff it manages to transmit in its 10 minutes sounded genuine and I resonated a lot with it.
Basically it talks about what the concept of “inner shaman” means and what we can get by getting in touch with it. Personally, I’ve had several experiences of connecting with this energy and drank from it’s knowledge. It is always there if you are willing to look for it, though you might have to be ready for some uncomfortable truths.
Some of the key concepts that stayed with me while listening to this audio were:
The existence of a creative, powerful, core self
Many times we run around in all directions, looking for something of the external world that will amaze us enough to fill us with inspiration. Yet, by connecting with the essence of “what has always been”, meaning the roots of the ancients within our consciousness, we can discover that our creativity is unlimited since everything that exists in this world was constructed by our very minds.
The inner shaman never demands anything of you
This kind of intelligence is far from the judgemental angelical figures religions seek as spiritual guides. It is more like an old indifferent man sitting on a rock, ignoring you until you are completely willing to listen. The inner shaman does not judge you or take you on guilt trips. It talks to you with serene indifference and shows you the path to your full potential.
Your inner shaman is that part of you that is infinitely healthy
Sometimes the solutions to our lack of energy and the dread of our lives are so simple it hurts. The inner shaman will not give you complex medicine, it will ask you “when was the last time you sang? When was the last time you danced? When was the last time you placed your feet in the flowing water of a river? Go do that and tell me again of how tired and stressed you feel”.
Discovering your inner shaman will avoid feeling like a victim
The material world seems rigid and hard to move. Many things seem difficult to change and it tends to make you feel powerless. However, this is only due to our forgetfulness of the fact that our minds are literally creating this reality, that we are not the victims but rather the writers of our stories. The inner shaman seeks ways to remind us of this.
