I've not been monitoring what Ubuntu are doing lately even though I use their distro. Has he stopped coming up with radical plans that go nowhere?
Any chance of more open source people coming to Steem to blog? I want to support projects with my votes.

We know that is not true, although it's not perfect by a long stretch. If you know anyone who wants to try it I have accounts to give away that will get them on board instantly. People can get content on here using things like Share2steem and see how it goes.

So how do we change that perception? Where are they getting that impression? I realise that it can seem like money from nowhere, but it works. I'll admit I don't understand all the theory.

For me, the pertinent point is: "It's no skin off my nose if someone pinches it, I never used any FIAT to buy Steem anyway. I'd never buy Crypto with FIAT either."
Maybe if it was emphasised that you don't have to buy Steem people would be more willing to give it a go with the lure of Free Money? The only issue I can see with that is speculators and people with a vested interest in Steem Cryptocurrency would not be happy because the price of Steem wouldn't rise as fast without people actively buying it.

They say the DDOS could be a pissed of user, but it's more likely to be crooks demanding money.
I've bought some Steem and now others who bought loads. It's a choice we have. My account was worth almost $100k for a while, but I couldn't have powered down fast enough to really profit then. I'm not that bothered by it. If it does take off then it could be worth even more.
There are some crooks and scam artists around Steem, but there's much more to it than that.
