"It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
― Mother Teresa
Sharing your blessings to others is one of my goals in life. I did not know that giving can make me feel very happy . The feeling that you cannot describe . If you are really thankful with all the blessings you have received recently try to give back to those people who needs it .
One of my Japanese student came to Cebu for sightseeing and before he went back to Japan . We suggested him to do food giving to street children . My friend @ninyea gave me an idea about it and both of us tried to explain to him how it works. He agreed to it and went grocery shopping for the ingredients.
My student was going to cook onigiri (rice balls) and yakisoba (fried noodles) . These two dishes are Japanese foods so we were not really sure if it's delicious or not but we tried cooking it anyway . We were going to give 100 packs for street children. I am not a good cook but I am good at slicing vegetables . :D
The day before our event we bought Japanese ingredients such as sticky rice, bonito flakes , soy sauce , vegetables , mayonnaise and many to mention. This looks many but we were motivated to cook something special . Everyone of us were busy preparing and my student was also cooking using woods. It's funny but yeah , he was cooking using woods in my friend's house . He was amazed because its his first time using woods .
After all the struggles we have experience , he cooked everything for a long time . This is our finish products . First dish was onigiri . @ninyea and I were shaping the rice balls into triangle but we were not successful enough to do that . As you can see there are many different kinds of shape in the picture. Anyway , we made 100 pieces of rice balls all by ourselves.
The 2nd dish is yakisoba, this looks like pansit in our country and they were delicious . I am craving these dishes now .
We packed in a small plastic bags and we also made some buns with yakisoba.
It took us a long time to pack everything . We finished all of these at aroun 12pm in the afternoon . It was not easy to finish all the tasks but looking at the smalls packages . It made us more excited to give these to children on the streets.
Inside the bags we put one rice balls , a pack of yakisoba and a juice. I think it was enough for them to fill their stomachs.
We rented a car to roam around the city to find street children and together with my friend .
We were driving around the city to give the food to them . It was really nice to give and seeing them smile. Receiving their thank you made me teary eyed . It made me realize that only simple things can make them happy . It was very simple things for us but for them it was big enough and you can see their appreciation from their faces. Oh ! As I am writing now , I feel like I am going to cry. I miss giving and helping to other needy people. If I am very rich , I will surely share everything I have to make them feel happy . :)
It was a great and touching experience for me and I would cherish it with all my heart until I die. I will never ever forget this kindness that my student has given to these children. I agree with the thought it is better to give than to receive.
I want to do food giving again sooner but for now I am sharing this post to everyone .
Have you ever tried sharing before ? Please share your thoughts . I would love to hear your stories. Thank you for reading .
Sincerely yours,
@joancabz
Indeed you have a Christ heart!
Sharing is loving as they say. As a fellow Filipino and have the heart for others I can say that I'm one of those who really cares for them. It touches my heart when I see someone who seems forgotten - the aged. And I've loved to share a little if have something whether it was food or money that I could give to them especially to those who are begging in the streets. Don't ever be tired of giving them hope in this life.
