The Truth about Greenland Shark

Headlines circulated on internet today (Dec. 14) breathlessly describes the discovery of a 512-year-old shark — but they are little off the mark.

As long-lived they may be a, Greenland sharks do not even come close to longevity of hydra — fresh water polyps. These unassuming-looking invertebrates continuously regenerates their own cells, and are thought to be able to live forever under right conditions.
