Sheeple

While the sheeple (us) are focusing on the shiny objects dangled in front of us by politicians and media, i.e. trump's tweets, "the war on terrorism", Obuma-care, spring break, etc., fundamental issues go unchecked. These are messy and complicated issues that can't be solved with an emotional soundbite or a bumper sticker slogan. They appear to be too deep for a politician (insider or outsider) or a government entity to solve either.

One issue is the rapid deterioration of the rural community, and specifically the small farmer. This article speaks of a rural blight - meth overdose. Methamphetamine is a very addictive drug that is easy top produce and especially attractive in rural areas where jobs are few and money is hard to come by. It is also a lot easier for lazy people to produce and consume than working from 5 to 9 on the farm.
Furthermore, the large ago-businesses (Monsanto Inc. and their genetically modified soy and corn, for one) are food factories that generate laboratory modified-starches (soy, corn) and antibiotic inflated-protein (chicken, beef) for optimal profit. It is an assembly line system that feeds most of us. Many would argue that this is not what food should be.
See YouTube documentary "Food Inc." -

Another issue has to be the plight of US war veterans that come back from overseas and can't function in society anymore (many couldn't in the first place though). Despite all the patriots waving flags and placement of "support the troop" bumper stickers on their vehicles, and cheering on when the air force unleashes drone and bomb terrorist attacks in the middle east, no one seems to be wiling to do much for these guys There's a disconnect there. (hint: take one in to your home for 6 months till he gets on his feet).

Yet another issue is the elderly being dumped in old people homes to live out their lonely, pathetic last days. Why? Because their adult children find it too inconvenient to care for them in their own homes. Yes, these are ugly, messy truths.

Yet another issue is how so few of us read - and as an extension, how most of us are addicted to this internet/smartphone devil. The youth, I'm concerned will not develop social skills by living in a world of digital displays and 150 word limit texts.

Yet another issue is the debt most countries have amassed by printing money, selling bonds, and expanding social security and pensions. These monetary schemes are done beyond any realistic capability to pay them off. Every time the bill comes in, the system just prints more money and sells more debt for more interest charges down the road. This is simply...a pyramid scheme? Yes, I'm talking to you congress, and the federal reserve, and you to Greece.
