Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

The men who first deliver a speech in Bangla, In a conference, at the United Nation (UN).

A Bengali, Who was the founding father of Bangladesh. And also known as "father of the nation"(Bengali:জাতির জনক)(Bengali Pronunciation: Jatir Jonok). He popular by the title"Bangabandhu" (Bôngobondhu "Friend of Bengal")
Bangabandhu was the first President of Bangladesh. And Later Prime-Minister of Bangladesh.
Today Its 15 August, we mourned for our nation's father.
Let's have a short review on his life.

Birth and Early life

He was born on 17 March 1920. In a village named Tungipara under the Gopalganj district, the State of Bengal in British India, now it's in Dhaka division.
His father was Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and mother Sayera Khatun.

As his father was the clerk at gopalganj civil court. His early life passed in gopalganj.
At the age of 9, he admits into class three at Gopalganj Public School. After 2 years he admitted into class four in Madaripur Islamia High School. From the early age, he showed the potential of leadership. At the age of 22, he passes matriculation from Gopalganj Missionary School.
1944 he passed intermediate from Islamia College (now Maulana Azad College ). And pass B.A from the same college in 1947. Then he admitted into Dhaka University

Political Career

As a politician, his political career can't describe in some paragraph. So it could belong. But full of information.
1940 he joined All India Muslim Students Federation
at this time he was in Islamia College.
In 1943 he joined Bangla Muslim League. By seeing his improvement in politics the party made his General Secretary of Islamia College Student Union.

When he admitted in Dhaka University, he founded East Pakistan Muslim Student League. It was the time when the Subcontinent divided into two parts.

In 1948,21 March when Muhammad Ali Jinnah(Contemporary President Of Pakistan) declare that East Pakistan has to adopt Urdu as the state language. And he starts a movement against this. Because 52% of the population of Pakistan speak Bangla.
For this reason, he arrested.

Founding Awami League
Awami Muslim League, a political organization by

★Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy
★Yar Mohammad Khan
★Shamsul Huq
He left Muslim League and join Awami Muslim League(Former name of Awami League) as joint secretary of it.
He was elected as General Secretary of this organization in 1953.
He served from 1955-1958 as the second Constituent Assembly of Pakistan.
He entered in the second coalition government as the minister of industry and commerce labour in 1956.
When Ayub khan fixed the martial law, Mujib was arrested for organizing resistance and he was imprisoned till 1961.

After the death of Suharawardy in 1963, Mujib becomes the head of this organization. And the popularity of this organization spared.
In 1966, he mentioned 6 points movement.which is known as the "Our charter of survival"
In which he was able to show the contradiction between East and West Pakistan.
Then Mujib was arrested for "Agartala Conspiracy Case" with 34 major generals.
1969,22 February he returned Bangladesh.
And the next day he was given the title Bangabandhu
In 1970, the general election of Pakistan Awami league won majority parent of vote by the leadership of Mujib.

Bangladesh achieve Independent

It was7 March 1971
Mujib called for a rally at Race Course Ground(Now Soharawardi Garden) and declared to take a major step for civil-disobedience. On this podium, he called for independence. In this gathering, over two million people joined.

When Ayub Khan saw the situation was going bad he declares martial law.
25 March 1971 midnight Pakistani army launched "Operation Searchlight".And kill thousands of innocent people in Dhaka, Chittagong and others district. Ayub Khan ordered to arrest Mujib. Before being arrested he declared the Independence of Bangladesh. And Mujib was taken to Pakistan as a prisoner.
After the 9-month war, Bangladesh achieves their victory. On 16 December 1971 Pakistani Army surrounded.
8 January 1972 Mujib was released. And 1972 January 12 he came Bangladesh, after visiting London and India.

And started to decorate the newly formed Bangladesh.

Personal Life

At the age of 22, Mujib got married with Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, a cousin sister of mujin, who lost her parents at the age of 3. She was 12 years old when they married.
They had two daughters and three sons. Following:-

• Sheikh Rehana
• Sheikh Kamal
• Sheikh Jamal
• Sheikh Rasel
  

When the liberation war breaks out Hasina & Rehan was in Germany. Kamal & Jamal both joined in the liberation war. Sheikh Kamal the "Guerrilla" Struggle during the liberation war.
In the time full Mujib family was house arrested.

Murder

15 August 1975 a group of traitor invaded the presidential residence and kill Mujib, his all family member and personal staff. At this time Hasina & Rehana was in Germany and they were banned from returning.
