Jesus in the Gospel of John is presented in a different way than in the synoptic gospels, with the seven affirmations of the "I am", Jesus is presented in a mysterious way as the personification of the perfections of God.
And being in the city of Jerusalem where Jesus cured a man born blind, Jesus presented himself to the crowd that was listening to him as the personification of the wisdom of God by affirming that he was the true door: "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved" John 10:9, and as God's spiritual guide, explaining that he was the good shepherd who sought his sheep, that is, the people he had to save with his spiritual message.
With these teachings, Jesus sought examples from everyday life to convey the true meaning of his spiritual message. When Jesus gave his teachings he had to be very careful because his enemies, especially the Sadducees and Pharisees, sought to accuse him of being a heretic with the intention of condemn him to death as a false prophet. The Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections, is not about the search for happiness, but instead, is essentially, that hidden treasure that men must strive to find through the words of Jesus which are the way, the truth, and the life, and this fact is better comprehend when is understood in the mind that the true goal of the spiritual life is to attain likeness to God: "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" Matthew 5:48.
This is why Jesus in a metaphorical sense described his spiritual mission in the world as king of a spiritual kingdom and guide to the truth: "I can guarantee this truth: I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before I did were thieves or robbers. However, the sheep didn't respond to them" John 10:7-8. With this teaching about the good shepherd, Jesus revealed himself as someone sent by the Father to fulfill everything that had been announced by the prophets in the Old Testament.
